Good Flexibility for a Demanding Fintech Role
Pros: I appreciate the hybrid model; it lets me work from home 2-3 days a week. As a Senior Software Engineer, that flexibility is key to managing project deadlines and personal life. It's better than full-time onsite at other big tech places.
Cons: While there are WFH days, the expectations for availability are still high. It often feels like you're working global payment hours, which can extend your day. True flexibility isn't always there when urgent issues pop up.
Advice to Management: Keep pushing for clearer boundaries on 'after-hours' work. Even with a hybrid model, some roles like ours struggle with truly disconnecting.

Okay Flexibility, Demanding Fintech Pace
Pros: The hybrid model is actually pretty good. You can typically pick your WFH days, which is nice for personal appointments. It's a standard for a big tech scale-up like this, especially in the London office, making commutes less of a daily grind.
Cons: Despite the flexibility, the workload for a Software Engineer is intense. You're expected to deliver a lot, so those WFH days sometimes mean working longer hours. It's not a truly remote role if you're local; you're still expected in the office certain days.
Advice to Management: Really look at workload distribution, especially for technical roles. If you want people to truly benefit from the hybrid model, make sure they aren't just shifting long hours from office to home.

Culture's okay, but it's a big company now.
Pros: There are some really smart people here, which is great for learning new tech. As a Software Engineer in the FinTech space, I've had solid opportunities to work on interesting projects. The hybrid work model is a definite plus.
Cons: The company culture feels less like a startup and more corporate now. It's tough to build consistent team bonds with the high turnover. It can feel a bit impersonal, and that makes it harder sometimes.
Advice to Management: Try to keep some of that early startup energy alive, even with rapid growth. Focus on making sure teams feel connected and valued, especially as the company expands globally.
