Flexibility Varies a Lot by Role
Pros: As a Site Engineer, you get decent time off between shifts if you're FIFO, which helps. Some office roles in the Perth hub actually get good hybrid options. Compressed work weeks on some mining projects are a plus, too.
Cons: For onsite roles, especially with heavy machinery, work flexibility isn't really a thing. Your schedule is pretty rigid, and it's tough to make changes if something comes up. Don't expect to WFH if you're working directly on a project.
Advice to Management: Try to find ways to offer more flexibility for onsite staff, even small things. Acknowledge that the 24/7 nature of mining projects makes it tough, but maybe there are creative solutions.

Solid Company, If You Push for Growth
Pros: As a Site Supervisor, I've gained lots of experience on large-scale mining projects. The pay and benefits for onsite roles are pretty decent in the resources sector. You can learn a lot if you're proactive.
Cons: Career growth isn't always clear for existing employees. There isn't much structured development, so you need to look for opportunities yourself. Internal promotions can feel slow in this large corporate environment.
Advice to Management: Create clearer career development pathways for employees. Invest more in internal training and mentorship programs to foster career growth.

Okay Flexibility, Depends on Your Role
Pros: Honestly, for a big corporate in the mining sector, they're pretty transparent about expectations. My project team in Perth tried to accommodate WFH for office days when possible. It's not always easy with the heavy equipment schedules.
Cons: But as a Site Engineer, true work flexibility is super limited. You're mostly tied to the onsite schedule, especially for those longer remote mining projects. Changing your roster can be a real headache.
Advice to Management: Try to find more ways to offer flexibility for onsite roles, even small things. It'd make a big difference for retention.
