Decent place, but watch the workload
Pros: The hybrid work model is a lifesaver for me. As a Systems Engineer, I get decent flexibility. Working from home a few days helps a lot. Plus, there's solid job security due to defense industry projects.
Cons: Project deadlines are often really tight. Chasing government contracts means extra pressure. You frequently work longer hours to meet goals. This isn't great for your work-life balance in the Adelaide office.
Advice to Management: Try to manage project scope better so teams aren't always scrambling to meet unrealistic deadlines. More support for burnout prevention would be a big plus.

Solid place, but watch your hours sometimes
Pros: The hybrid work model is a huge plus. It helps me manage personal appointments and avoid the daily commute to the Adelaide office. There's good holiday leave, which is nice, and generally, people respect your weekends if you're not on a critical deadline.
Cons: The biggest challenge is workload, especially when we're approaching deadlines for government contracts. As a Project Engineer, I often found myself working longer hours than expected. Sometimes, the 'flexible' part of work-life balance feels more like 'flexible to work more'.
Advice to Management: Try to better manage project scope and resources to prevent burnout, especially for those in critical engineering roles. More realistic deadlines would really help with work-life balance across the board.

Work-Life Balance Is Okay, Depends on Project
Pros: You do get a good amount of public holidays and the leave policy is solid. As a Software Engineer in the Adelaide office, the hybrid model made managing personal appointments much easier. There's generally an effort to avoid consistent overtime for most defence industry roles.
Cons: Some defence industry projects have super tight deadlines, which really impacts work-life balance. You might find yourself putting in extra hours unexpectedly, and it's not always consistent. Leadership sometimes struggles to anticipate these workload spikes, making personal planning tough.
Advice to Management: Try to get better at predicting project crunch times so teams can manage their workload more effectively. Keep supporting the hybrid work model; it makes a big difference for us.
