Decent perks for hotel staff, but low pay.
Pros: I've gotten some really great discounted stays as an employee, which is a major perk for hotel staff. The health insurance is pretty solid for the hospitality industry. It's nice to have when you're working onsite.
Cons: The pay isn't great, especially for a Front Desk Associate in the Chicago market. Raises are super tiny, so it's tough to feel like you're getting ahead. For a big corporate hotel chain, I thought base pay would be better.
Advice to Management: Consider improving the base pay for entry-level roles like Front Desk Associates, especially in high cost-of-living areas. It would really help with retention in the hospitality industry.

Solid hotel job, but growth is slow
Pros: As a Front Desk Associate, the work is pretty steady. There's always a need for staff in the hospitality industry, especially for onsite work. It's a decent corporate chain with consistent policies.
Cons: Job security during slower seasons can feel shaky with reduced hours sometimes. Advancement for hotel operations staff isn't always clear, you can feel stuck without internal promotions.
Advice to Management: Offer clearer paths for career progression for non-management roles. Improve communication about seasonal hour adjustments to reduce employee stress.

Okay Work-Life for Hospitality, But Tough Shifts
Pros: As a Front Desk Associate, I did usually get my two days off a week. The hotel operations were pretty structured, so my shifts were mostly predictable, which helps for planning outside of work. It's a solid, well-known brand in the hospitality industry.
Cons: Work-life balance here can be tough, especially if you're on night audit or working a lot of evening shifts. Getting requests for specific days off approved isn't always easy, and sometimes you're really short-staffed, which means extra work. It's a demanding role for guest services.
Advice to Management: Try to be more flexible with scheduling requests for your onsite teams, especially for associates who've been with the company a while. Better staffing would also reduce the burden on current employees and improve overall service.
