Solid flexibility, but keep an eye on project load.
Pros: The remote work policy is a huge plus for my role as a Software Engineer. I don't have to commute and can manage my personal life well. There's good autonomy to set your own schedule, which is great for work-life balance and a big draw in big tech.
Cons: Sometimes the project deadlines feel a bit too tight, even with the flexibility. You still end up working long hours to meet them, especially as we push new features for our SaaS platform. It's not a strict 40-hour week every time, even with a remote setup.
Advice to Management: Try to better manage project scope and realistic deadlines, even for remote teams. More explicit focus on preventing burnout for individual contributors would be a good move.

Pay is okay, benefits are pretty decent here
Pros: The benefits package is pretty strong. Health insurance is good, and the 401k match helps a lot. For a big tech company, they do offer decent perks for remote work arrangements, which is nice.
Cons: The base pay for Customer Support Specialist roles feels a little low compared to other tech companies in Austin. Annual raises aren't huge either. It's tough to negotiate a much higher starting salary.
Advice to Management: Revisit the salary bands for entry to mid-level customer support roles. It would really help with retaining talent.

Job security feels pretty decent, but not rock solid
Pros: As a Software Engineer, the core customer service software product is stable. We've got a decent customer base in the SaaS industry, which helps keep things steady. For technical roles like mine, there's always project work to do.
Cons: There have been some layoffs across big tech, and Zendesk wasn't immune, which makes everyone a little nervous. While working remote from Texas is great for work-life balance, sometimes you wonder about your place in the corporate future. There isn't always clear communication on long-term strategy, impacting job security confidence.
Advice to Management: Be more transparent about the long-term vision and strategy. Consistent communication helps reduce employee anxiety and improves overall confidence in job security, especially in a remote work environment.
