Decent Hybrid, But Onsite Still King
Pros: As a Project Coordinator in the Chicago office, I've had some decent hybrid options. It's nice to have a couple days WFH for deep work. My team leader is pretty good about flexible start times, which helps with the commute.
Cons: Still, for Alstom's core rail mobility sector roles, you're expected onsite a lot. There isn't much room for full remote work. Sometimes it feels like the big corporate company really wants eyes on you, which limits actual work flexibility.
Advice to Management: Try to offer more consistent hybrid options across all departments. For Project Coordinator roles, sometimes work can be done just as effectively from home, increasing employee satisfaction and reducing commute stress for those in the transportation projects.

Okay for some, intense for others.
Pros: The **hybrid model** for **Mechanical Engineer** roles in the **Rochester, NY office** is a real benefit. It lets you split time between **onsite work** and home, which helps a lot. It's also a solid place to get experience in the **transportation industry** if you're working on **railway projects**.
Cons: Work-life balance can be tough when project deadlines hit for **train manufacturing**. I've pulled 50+ hour weeks often, and it's not always compensated well. Expectations vary wildly between different project managers.
Advice to Management: Standardize expectations around work hours across all project teams. Provide better support for project managers to prevent burnout for engineering staff.

Alstom's Pay is Okay, Benefits are Solid
Pros: As a Project Engineer here, the medical and dental benefits are actually pretty solid. There's a decent 401k match too, which is a good perk for a large corporate company in the rail transport sector.
Cons: Base salary for engineering roles can feel a bit low compared to similar companies. Yearly raises aren't huge, so negotiating your starting pay is really important.
Advice to Management: Re-evaluate market rates for experienced engineering roles to stay competitive and attract top talent.
