Overview



The Manager, Applications & Digital Development is responsible for leading system development, coding, and configuration activities supporting MUFG Retirement Solutions Hong Kong. This role combines deep technical expertise with team leadership to deliver scalable, secure, and high-performing retirement platform solutions, ensuring alignment with business requirements, regulatory expectations, and enterprise architecture standards.


Key Accountabilities and main responsibilities
Strategic Focus
  • Contribute to the development and evolution of retirement platform architecture and technical roadmap
  • Support digital transformation, system modernisation, and automation initiatives
  • Identify opportunities to improve system performance, scalability, and maintainability
  • Ensure alignment with enterprise architecture, security standards, and regulatory requirements

Operational Management
  • Lead end-to-end system development lifecycle including design, coding, configuration, testing, and deployment
  • Translate business and functional requirements into technical solutions and system designs
  • Oversee and perform hands-on coding, code reviews, debugging, and optimisation
  • Ensure adherence to development standards, DevOps practices, and CI/CD processes
  • Manage delivery timelines, resolve technical issues, and ensure stable production releases
  • Drive continuous improvement in system capabilities, development processes, and tools

People Leadership
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of developers and technical specialists
  • Allocate work, manage priorities, and ensure delivery against agreed milestones
  • Build a high-performing team culture focused on quality, accountability, and continuous learning
  • Provide coaching and technical guidance, promoting best practices in development and engineering
  • Support talent development, performance management, and succession planning

Governance & Risk
  • Ensure all development activities comply with internal policies, IT governance, and regulatory requirements
  • Maintain strong controls over system security, data integrity, and access management
  • Support audit, risk, and compliance activities related to applications and systems
  • Identify and mitigate technical risks, including system vulnerabilities and operational dependencies
  • Ensure proper documentation and adherence to change management and release processes.

Experience & Personal Attributes
  • 10+ years’ experience in system development and application delivery within financial services or similar environments
  • Significant hands-on experience in software development (e.g., Java, .NET, Python or similar)
  • Proven experience in system configuration, integration, and application development
  • Demonstrated experience leading development teams or acting as a technical lead
  • Strong understanding of system architecture, APIs, microservices, and database technologies
  • Experience with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and modern development tools
  • Preferably experience in financial services, pensions, or retirement solutions
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, delivery-focused environment
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
