M+ is a museum dedicated to collecting, exhibiting, and interpreting visual art, design and architecture, moving image, and Hong Kong visual culture of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. M+ has four permanent collections that are rooted in Asia but defined, developed, and examined from a global perspective. They are the M+ Sigg Collection, the world’s most comprehensive collection of contemporary Chinese art; The M+ Collection, a pioneering interdisciplinary collection of over 9,000 objects spanning the fields of design and architecture, the moving image and visual art; the M+ Collection Archives, a leading research repository of primary documents that provides insights into the creative processes of artists and makers; and the M+ Library Special Collection, a dedicated home for the key creative medium of printed matter. Together these collections form the heart of the institution and will continue to grow and evolve into the future.
This position will work closely with Curator, Collections to support the Collections and Curatorial teams in acquisitions, collection research and cataloguing, broadening public access to the collections, and other collections-related museum matters.
You Will Be Responsible For
- performing administrative tasks relating to collection-related processes and meetings;
- liaising with other departments, communicating across different teams, and coordinating efforts of cross-team projects relating to the collections;
- assisting in acquisition of works, general research, and artwork label production;
- maintaining data records of collection objects, enabling accessibility and location of objects in the M+ collections;
- assisting with documentation of the collections, and other special projects of M+ where needed; and
- performing any duties from time to time as reasonably as assigned by M+.
You Should
- Possess a graduate-level degree from a recognised university in Art History, Curatorial or Museum Studies, or other related disciplines,
- have 2-3 years’ experience in a curatorial position, preferably working with collections and the cataloguing of visual art, design and architecture and/or moving image works,
- prior experience using The Museum System (TMS), or other collections management software.
- have knowledge of twentieth and twenty-first century visual art from Hong Kong, China, and Asia in particular;
- have good oral and written communication skills in English and Chinese including Putonghua.
- be highly organised and detail-oriented;
- have strong project management and administrative skills, be able to work collaboratively and with tight timeframes and competing priorities.
