Applications are invited for appointment as
Research Assistants in Centre for Translational Stem Cell Biology (Ref.:CTSCB-260305), to commence as soon as possible for one year, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance.
The selected candidates will work in a company incorporated by the University of Hong Kong established to administer and support the University’s innovation endeavours.
CTSCB projects are initiated and supervised by scientists and clinicians from The University of Hong Kong. Shortlisted candidates will be assigned to one to two projects in the Centre according to their expertise and experience. These projects focus on developing and testing antiviral agents for several viruses, especially Influenza and Monkeypox, and translating these agents into practical daily applications. Thus, those candidates will work on the R&D and business development of the project, which may involve pitching sessions and meetings with potential investors. Project scopes can be found in the paragraphs below.
Applicants should possess at least Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Sciences, Biological Sciences, or a related discipline for the position of Research Assistant. Research experiences in at least one of the areas, including stem cells, regenerative medicine, animal models, immunology, embryology, genomics, genome-editing, and drug screening are desirable. Applicants should have good practice of laboratory and teamwork. They should have a good command of written and spoken English, strong communication skills, and a demonstrated track record of wet laboratory experience. Applicants should also be self-motivated, innovative, and able to work well in an interdisciplinary team.
Key Responsibilities
- Core laboratory and cell culture techniques
- Conduct molecular biology procedures and perform plasmid purification for gene targeting experiments.
- Execute molecular and cellular analysis
- Perform cell-based assays and imaging
- Assist in developing and testing antiviral agents
- Apply editing techniques to identify or validate novel antiviral targets or strategies.
- Support overall lab operations
- Perform any ad-hoc tasks assigned by the project leader and supervisor
Appointees are expected to conduct research projects with a multidisciplinary team of clinicians and scientists. Occasional off-site work may be required.
