Job security can feel a bit shaky sometimes

Techolution is fine, but job security is a constant thought. As a Solutions Architect, your role feels very tied to specific digital transformation projects. It's pretty common for mid-sized tech companies.

Pros

I've worked on some truly interesting IT consulting engagements here. When you're staffed on a project, the work is engaging. It's a decent place to build your skills, especially if you're remote from Texas like me.

Cons

The big drawback is how project-dependent everything feels. When a project wraps up, you can end up on the bench. There's real concern about layoffs if you don't quickly land another gig. It adds a lot of stress to the job.

Advice to Management

Management really needs a better strategy for unassigned staff. It would help a lot with retention and employee morale. Clearer internal pathways for IT consultants would be a game-changer.

Work flexibility is a mixed bag here
Pros: My specific team had a pretty solid remote work policy for a while. We could mostly work from home, which was a huge plus for my work-life balance. It's nice that the tech industry overall supports this, and some managers really get it.
Cons: The biggest issue is the inconsistency. Not all projects or teams had the same flexibility. Some expected you in the Atlanta office for a hybrid model, making it tough to plan. It wasn't always clear what the expectation was for developers.
Advice to Management: Try to standardize the work flexibility policies across all teams and projects. It would help a lot if expectations for remote work or hybrid setups were consistent for all software engineers.

Leadership Can Be Hit or Miss
Pros: My immediate team lead was solid and super supportive. They really helped me out as a Software Engineer on complex digital transformation projects. Our remote work setup also has decent tools.
Cons: Upper leadership often seems pretty disconnected from what we do daily. It's tough to get clear direction sometimes. They don't always get the challenges with remote teams.
Advice to Management: Try to connect more with individual contributors. Really understand the remote work experience better. Listen to your team leads; they know what's actually happening on the ground.

Remote Software Engineer: Leadership Needs Work
Pros: It's pretty good for a Software Engineer wanting to learn new tech stacks. My team in the remote setup was solid and supportive. You get decent exposure to digital transformation projects.
Cons: The leadership here changes direction too often. There's a real lack of consistent vision from the top, which can be tough for a growing IT consulting firm. Communication from management often feels scattered, leaving remote employees guessing.
Advice to Management: Focus on building a stable leadership team. Clear up communication channels, especially for remote staff. Give us a solid direction to work towards, particularly in our IT consulting projects.
