Leadership has some good ideas, but execution...

Working at Ather Energy has its ups and downs. The vision for electric scooters is inspiring, and the team is smart. But leadership really needs to get its act together on strategy and communication. It can feel a bit chaotic in this fast-paced EV industry startup environment.

Pros

It's cool to work on electric scooters; the mission for sustainable transportation is real. The engineering talent here, especially for EV software roles, is solid. There's a lot of passion from the initial founders for the Indian market.

Cons

Leadership can be a bit scattered. Strategies for scaling up often change too quickly, which is tough for us Software Engineers. Communication from the top isn't always clear in the Bangalore office, affecting project timelines.

Advice to Management

Improve internal communication channels. Listen more to the teams on the ground before making big strategic pivots. A stable roadmap would help everyone focus better.

Fast-paced EV startup, decent culture
Pros: The company culture is pretty solid for a fast-growing Indian startup in the electric vehicle space. Everyone's really driven, and you're surrounded by smart people. There's a good vibe among the engineers in the Bangalore office, and we often collaborated well on software development projects. You get to work on exciting automotive tech, which is a big plus.
Cons: It's definitely a grind sometimes; the work-life balance isn't always there, especially for junior software engineers during crunch times. Leadership can be a bit detached, which makes it tough to feel heard. The hybrid work model wasn't always well-defined, leading to some confusion about office days.
Advice to Management: Try to improve work-life balance, especially for early-career folks. Better communication from leadership and clearer guidelines for hybrid work would also help employee morale in the Bangalore office.

Decent place, but watch your hours in EV tech
Pros: The work itself is really engaging, especially being in the EV industry. I loved contributing to electric scooter development. There are smart people in the Bengaluru office and you learn a lot from them.
Cons: Work-life balance can be tough as a Software Engineer. It's a typical startup environment, so expect long hours, especially before product launches. Weekends often get eaten up, which isn't ideal.
Advice to Management: Try to set more realistic project timelines. Engineers often feel pressured to work excessive hours, which leads to burnout. More resources might help spread the load.

Okay flexibility, but startup pace is real
Pros: For a fast-growing EV startup in Bangalore, they're decent about occasional work-from-home if you really need it. It's not advertised, but as a Test Engineer, my manager was understanding for a few personal appointments. That small bit of flexibility helps.
Cons: The standard is pretty much in-office, three days a week is mandatory for most product and engineering roles. Hybrid work is a buzzword here, often feels like a strict office schedule. You're expected to be around for all meetings, making truly flexible hours hard.
Advice to Management: Seriously re-evaluate the 'hybrid' policy for product and engineering teams. Give more genuine autonomy over schedules. Trust your employees more to manage their time and workload.
