Solid Place for Resource Extraction, Decent Culture

Working at Freeport-McMoRan has been a pretty solid experience overall. It's a huge player in the **mining industry**, so you expect a certain kind of **company culture**. For an **Environmental Specialist** like me, it's stable and provides good benefits, but definitely has that big corporate feel.


Pros

You get great stability here. For **corporate** roles in **Phoenix, AZ**, the benefits package is pretty comprehensive. I've also learned a ton from experienced colleagues; there's a lot of deep institutional knowledge, which is a big plus in the **copper production** sector.


Cons

The culture can be a bit resistant to change. New initiatives often get bogged down in bureaucracy, making things move really slowly. It feels very top-down, so individual contributions might not always feel valued if you're not high up. Flexibility isn't a strong suit either.


Advice to Management

Try to encourage more bottom-up ideas and speed up decision-making, especially in our **heavy industry**. Empowering teams more could really help improve engagement.

Leadership's there, but needs to connect better.
Pros: Senior leadership has tons of experience in copper mining. They really understand the big picture of heavy industry. It's solid for overall company stability.
Cons: Communication from higher-ups often feels pretty disconnected from actual mining operations. As a Mine Engineer, it's tough when decisions come down with little context. There's just not enough hands-on presence at the Morenci, AZ site.
Advice to Management: Really try to connect more with the boots-on-the-ground teams, especially at our remote mining operations. Better communication from leadership would make a huge difference in daily work for roles like mine engineers.
