Decent for now, but tech market is shifting

Working here as a Software Engineer has its ups and downs. The tech industry in Bangkok can be pretty dynamic. I've seen some good things, but also a few areas for improvement, especially regarding long-term job security.

Pros

They're a big player in the food delivery and on-demand services industry in Thailand. This gives some stability, especially for tech roles like mine as a Software Engineer. The work itself is usually pretty steady, not a lot of sudden major shifts in direction.

Cons

Lately, the overall tech market in Southeast Asia feels a bit wobbly. There's always a slight worry about layoffs in big tech companies, even here. Performance reviews can feel a bit arbitrary sometimes, which doesn't really help with feeling secure about your future here.

Advice to Management

Focus more on clear performance metrics and communicate future company directions openly. This would really help with employee confidence in job security, especially for product development teams.

WLB is decent for a tech company
Pros: Work-life balance is decent for a big tech company in Bangkok. They offer a pretty solid hybrid model, which is nice. As a Software Engineer, I appreciate the flexibility not to be stuck in the office five days a week.
Cons: But sometimes the pace is intense, especially in food delivery tech. Deadlines can get really tight, so you often end up working late. It's tough to fully disconnect, even with the hybrid setup.
Advice to Management: Try to manage project scope better so engineering teams aren't always crunched. More realistic deadlines would help a lot with burnout.

Solid Pay for Bangkok Tech, Benefits Okay
Pros: The salary package for software engineers in the Bangkok office is competitive. You get a good base pay that's hard to find elsewhere in the Thai tech startup scene. Equity options are also offered, which is a nice long-term incentive.
Cons: Beyond the salary, the benefits aren't super impressive. Health insurance could be more comprehensive, and there isn't much flexibility for remote work post-pandemic. PTO policies feel a bit standard, not generous like some other big tech companies.
Advice to Management: Focus on enhancing the non-salary benefits package, especially health coverage and remote work options. Attracting top talent isn't just about base pay for software engineers anymore; total compensation matters.

Leadership is a mixed bag here
Pros: The team culture among fellow Product Managers is really supportive. It's a great place to learn about the fast-paced food delivery tech startup world. We impact users directly in our Bangkok office, which is rewarding.
Cons: Leadership can be inconsistent, especially with mid-level management turnover. It's tough when there isn't a clear strategic vision from the top, which impacts project direction for engineering teams. There's been a few good leaders leave lately, which feels unstable.
Advice to Management: Focus on retaining good mid-level leaders and establishing a more consistent long-term vision. That would really help reduce churn and give project teams better direction.
