Pros: I did get to work on some cool features for the knowledge management platform. There's a lot of freedom to explore different parts of the codebase. The team in the San Francisco office is generally pretty smart and supportive.
Cons: Career growth here is tough, especially for engineering roles. Promotions are few and far between, and there's not much of a clear path to senior levels. I felt a bit stagnant after a year, even on interesting projects.
Advice to Management: Management needs to create clearer career ladders for individual contributors. Define what it takes to get to the next level. More mentorship programs would also really help us grow.

Pros: The people you work with directly are generally solid. I got to work on some really interesting data analytics features, which was good for my engineering skills. They offer a decent hybrid work model too, which is nice.
Cons: Leadership at Haystack feels pretty disconnected from the daily grind. There's not a clear vision, and decisions often seem last-minute. This can make it tough for Software Engineer roles to plan long-term, and middle management often feels unsupported.
Advice to Management: Please try to be more transparent with your strategy. Empower the team leads and managers more, they're the ones on the ground. A clearer roadmap would really help everyone.

Pros: The base salary for a Data Analyst here in Austin is solid. It's competitive compared to other tech startups. They also have a decent 401k match, which is a nice perk for employees.
Cons: The bonus structure isn't very clear, so don't count on a huge payout. Stock options are there, but the vesting schedule is slow, and it's a small startup so the equity value is speculative. Health insurance options are just okay, not amazing.
Advice to Management: Try to make the bonus structure more transparent and consider improving the health insurance plans for employees. Clearer communication on equity would also help retention.
