Decent work-life balance for a big bank
Working as a Financial Analyst at HSBC has its ups and downs. The work-life balance is surprisingly decent for a global financial institution, but it depends heavily on your team and department within financial services.
For a large corporate bank like HSBC, the work-life balance isn't terrible, especially in the retail banking side. I got a solid hybrid work schedule in the New York City office. Most weeks, it's a pretty standard 40-45 hours.
Sometimes deadlines for financial reporting make it tough to log off on time. It's not uncommon for higher-ups in investment banking to expect longer hours from their teams. Career growth can feel a bit slow sometimes too.
Managers should try to protect their teams' time, especially around major project deadlines. Encourage better boundaries across all departments, not just certain ones.
