Who You Are
You are a Senior Backend Engineer who takes pride in writing clean, production-grade code and thinking beyond the ticket. You thrive in cross-functional environments, communicate with clarity across engineering, product, and analytics, and bring the architectural instincts to design systems that scale. Whether in Python or Kotlin, you deliver with consistency, hold a high bar for quality, and are energized by the complexity of financial products and card platforms.
What You'll Do
- Write high-quality backend code in Python or Kotlin to power a card product for a leading US fintech company, upholding strong engineering standards across every layer.
- Design and contribute to system architecture, taking ownership from concept through implementation.
- Build robust APIs and data models that operate within service-oriented and event-driven architectures.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Analytics, and engineering teams to define and execute the card platform strategy.
- Participate in on-call engineering processes that support team growth and reduce operational toil.
What You Bring
- 6+ years of experience as a backend software engineer, with strong proficiency in Python or Kotlin.
- Advanced English (B2/C1) is mandatory, with excellent written and verbal communication skills including async formats such as tech specs, wikis, and project plans.
- Strong understanding of relational database systems and best practices.
- Deep knowledge of distributed systems and how architectural decisions impact performance and maintainability.
- Solid project management skills — highly organized, able to surface critical information and keep stakeholders aligned.
- Demonstrated experience working with multi-functional teams including Product, Design, Analytics, and Business.
Nice to Have
- Experience with AWS or other cloud providers.
- Prior exposure to card-related systems such as Marqeta, Stripe, FIS, transaction processing, money movement, or ACH.
- Background in risk, fraud mitigation, or decisioning services.
