The Engineering Manager is a critical leadership role within IREN’s Australian operations, responsible for leading and integrating a multidisciplinary engineering function that underpins the design, delivery, and operational performance of IREN’s large-scale, renewable-powered data centres. This role brings together deep technical expertise across electrical, high voltage, mechanical, civil/structural, controls, and asset management disciplines to ensure IREN’s Australian data centre portfolio is delivered and operated safely, sustainably, and to the highest standard.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil/Structural Engineering, or a related engineering discipline. A Master’s degree is advantageous.
  • Registration as a Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) with Engineers Australia, or eligibility and commitment to attain registration within an agreed time frame.
  • 15+ years of progressive engineering experience, including significant time leading multidisciplinary engineering teams on large-scale capital projects in mission-critical, industrial, or infrastructure environments.
  • Demonstrated experience in data centre, energy, utilities, or heavy infrastructure sectors, with familiarity across electrical (HV/MV/LV), mechanical, civil/structural, controls, and commissioning scopes.
  • Strong understanding of Australian standards and regulatory frameworks applicable to data centres and critical infrastructure, including AS/NZS standards, NCC (National Construction Code), WHS legislation, and state-specific electrical and building codes.
  • Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop senior engineers and technical leads across multiple disciplines simultaneously.
  • Experience managing engineering delivery through EPC contractors, specialist consultants, and OEM vendors, including technical review, governance, and risk management.
  • Familiarity with asset management principles, DCIM tools, building automation systems (BAS), and data centre infrastructure management; experience with CMMS platforms is desirable.
  • Strong understanding of commissioning methodologies, FAT/SAT processes, energization readiness, and structured handover to operations.
  • Demonstrated capability in technical risk identification, change management, and executive-level reporting across complex, multi-stakeholder programs.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage effectively with executive leadership, contractors, regulators, and community stakeholders.
  • Self-driven, highly organised, and capable of managing competing priorities across multiple concurrent workstreams in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.
  • Flexible approach to working hours to support IREN’s multi-time-zone, global operations; willingness to travel to Australian site locations and, occasionally, internationally as required.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic technical leadership across all engineering disciplines, including electrical, high voltage, mechanical, civil/structural, controls, and commissioning functions, ensuring integrated and coordinated delivery of IREN’s Australian data centre projects.
  • Directly manage and develop a multidisciplinary team of senior engineers and leads, including the Senior Electrical Engineer, HV Design Lead, Power Systems Lead, Electrical Design Lead, Mechanical Lead, Civil/Structural Lead, Controls Lead, Asset Manager, and Commissioning Manager.
  • Serve as the primary technical authority for engineering decisions across capital projects and operational initiatives in Australia, ensuring designs and workscomply withAustralian standards, codes, and regulatory requirements (including AS/NZS standards, NCC, and state-specific requirements).
  • Oversee the review, approval, and governance of all engineering deliverables, drawings, specifications, and technical submissions produced internally or by external consultants, EPC contractors, and vendors.
  • Lead cross-discipline engineering coordination, resolving interface issues between electrical, mechanical, civil/structural, controls, and IT/facilities scopes to ensure design integrity and constructability.
  • Establish andmaintainengineering standards, design criteria, and technical specifications tailored to the Australian regulatory environment, ensuring consistency and reliability across IREN’s Australian portfolio.
  • Lead technical risk identification, mitigation planning, and change management processes across design and construction phases, providing executive-level reporting on engineering risks, design maturity, and project readiness.
  • Manage vendor and EPC relationships from a technical perspective; support bid evaluations, technical clarifications, and contractor selection to ensure compliance with IREN standards and project requirements.
  • Oversee factory acceptance testing (FAT), site acceptance testing (SAT), commissioning readiness, and safe energisation across all systems, ensuring structured handover to operations.
  • Drive standardisation of engineering approaches across the Australian portfolio, capturing lessons learned and embedding them into future project delivery.
  • Partner with the VP – Operations Australia and cross-functional teams including construction, procurement, and asset management to align engineering outcomes with broader businessobjectives.
  • Ensure all engineering activitiescomply withWork Health and Safety (WHS) legislation and IREN’s safety management requirements, championing a zero-harm culture across the engineering function.
  • Support asset lifecycle management, maintenance planning, and operational reliability in close collaboration with the Asset Manager and Commissioning Manager.
  • Mentor and develop engineering team members, fostering a high-performance culture built on technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

  • The expected hourly range.
    • Actual compensation will be determined based on factors such as experience, qualifications.
