Job Title: Component Engineer

Job Description

The Component Engineer supports the design and development of products by selecting, documenting, and evaluating electrical and electro-mechanical components and subassemblies. This role follows established engineering practices and works closely with senior engineers to ensure that components meet performance, compliance, and tolerance requirements while supporting sustainable design practices.

Responsibilities

  • Follow standard engineering practices and procedures to learn about components, subassemblies, and processes used in product design.
  • Review design approaches and collaborate with senior Component Engineers to determine whether selected components meet or exceed required product specifications and tolerances.
  • Document the selection of components and subassemblies to ensure they deliver required performance and compliance specifications.
  • Interact with other engineering disciplines to define component requirements and modify component selections as needed to support overall product design.
  • Work under the guidance of senior Component Engineers to analyze designs and understand optimal selection of components and subassemblies.
  • Read and interpret design plans, tolerances, and specifications for products and machinery to support accurate component selection.
  • Observe and follow standard practices when recommending suppliers, methods, and techniques for obtaining solutions to engineering challenges.
  • Assist in analyzing component suppliers under the guidance of senior engineers to ensure quality of component parts and long-term supplier viability.

Essential Skills

  • Moderate understanding of electrical engineering and electro-mechanical engineering disciplines.
  • High level of knowledge of electrical components and electro-mechanical components.
  • Strong understanding of sustainable design practices and their application to component selection.
  • Ability to read and interpret design plans, tolerances, and technical specifications for products and machinery.
  • Experience with component selection and documentation for performance and compliance requirements.
  • 2–5 years of relevant work experience in an engineering or closely related technical role.
  • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline or equivalent experience.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Background in electronics and electrical design is highly beneficial.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with senior engineers and cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Attention to detail when evaluating component specifications, tolerances, and supplier information.
  • Strong analytical skills to support evaluation of component performance and supplier viability.
  • Willingness to learn and apply standard practices and procedures in a structured engineering environment.

Work Environment

The role operates in a professional engineering environment focused on the design and development of products that use electrical and electro-mechanical components. Work involves close collaboration with senior Component Engineers and other engineering disciplines, regular review of technical drawings and specifications, and adherence to established processes for component selection and supplier evaluation. The environment emphasizes sustainable design practices and the use of documented standards and procedures to ensure product quality and reliability.

This is a Contract position based out of Mississauga, ON.

Pay And Benefits

The pay range for this position is $38.00 - $40.00/hr.
