Get to Know the Role

Reporting to the Analytics Manager, you will be an important analytics partner focused on Trust and Safety for a specific Problem Space Team (PST). Your primary focus is to analyze user behavior and product funnels to identify potential risks. You will use our evolving auto-adaptive tools and GenAI capabilities to streamline your daily analytical workflow.

You will base onsite at our Grab Malaysia office.

The Critical Tasks You Will Perform

• Address analytical problems of low to medium complexity, delivering reliable and accurate insights to measure business and product risk performance.
• Analyze user behavior data to identify potential vulnerabilities across different risk domains, including account security, user safety, and content integrity, assisting in the building of anomaly detection systems.
• Ideate on new signals to detect risks, working with stakeholders to develop data-driven rules that mitigate bad actors.
• Use GenAI tools (like Cursor or Gemini) and basic system-thinking to automate routine metric reviews and alerts, freeing up your time for deeper threat investigations.
• Use components of our Auto-Adaptive risk frameworks as tools to help in the operational validation and refinement of safety and risk rules.
• Contribute to foundational data initiatives, such as metric onboarding, data pipeline cleanups, and architectural efficiency, ensuring the data we use for risk detection remains robust and reliable.

Qualifications:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

• Identify, develop, and deploy AI use cases within AlMg Substrate manufacturing, targeting yield improvement, defect reduction, and equipment downtime minimization across Plate, Wash, and Polish processes.  
• Build predictive and prescriptive models using available internal AI tools on manufacturing process data extracted from MES, ERP, and IoT/sensor sources.  
• Apply statistical analysis techniques including SPC, DOE, Cpk analysis, hypothesis testing, and multivariate analysis to uncover KPIV-KPOV relationships in substrate manufacturing processes.  
• Develop and maintain end-to-end(Substrate-Media-HDD) analytics pipelines - from data extraction and preparation through model training, validation, and production deployment.  
• Create self-serve data dashboards and automated reports using Spotfire to support real-time Cpk, Yield, and SPC monitoring for the manufacturing line.  
• Support AI-driven root cause analysis for quality excursions, reducing manual investigation cycle time.  
• Provide engineering support for Substrate manufacturing process issues, applying data science tools to accelerate root cause identification and corrective action deployment.

We build the central platform for metrics that enables Grabbers across the company to define, serve, discover, and consume trusted business and product metrics at scale. Our platform is an important foundational layer for Grab's AI-powered data ecosystem. The Senior Data Engineer role in the Metrics Platform team is a hybrid data and software engineering role. You will be an important member of the team that designs, builds, and operates Grab's metrics platform across metric serving, ingestion, metadata, query generation, platform APIs and several cross platform integrations. You will be responsible from technical design and implementation to rollout and production operations. You will contribute hands-on while guiding engineering quality through design reviews, operational improvements, and collaboration with partner teams.

You will report to the Senior Data Engineering Manager and will be based onsite at our office in Petaling Jaya.

The Critical Tasks You Will Perform

• You will build platform capabilities that help teams model, publish, discover, and consume trusted metrics and data products across Grab.
• You will develop and improve platform services, APIs, metadata systems, query generation, and tooling used by metrics publishers and consumers.
• You will collaborate with engineering, analytics, and data science teams to onboard new use cases and integrate their systems with the metrics platform.

1. Clickstream Intelligence Platform (Scribe) is Grab's in-house app instrumentation and insights platform that captures and analyzes user clickstream activity across all Grab apps. The platform supports observability, real-time personalization, and business analytics by processing tens of billions of events per hour at petabyte scale.
2. Customer Data Platform (CDP) enables Grab Teams to onboard and register Grab's customer data and make it available for Online Serving, ML Models, Segmentation, and Real Time targeting to power personalization use cases across the company. Our platform is used across many mission-critical Grab services such as app personalization, experimentation, ads serving, and marketing.

• Design and improve clickstream data pipelines—from event ingestion to insight delivery—and contribute to services/tools for understanding user behavior.
• Build scalable platform capabilities for user data onboarding, online serving, and real-time data pipelines/architecture.

In this role, you will become part of the Performance Excellence Pillar. The role is intended to work on Quality escape, RCA, KPI, and strategic prediction by analyzing data countries/clusters. You will have the opportunity to lead continuous improvement projects, according to the requirements, and deliver the expected business impacts.
