Culture Is Okay, Teamwork Is Good

Iris Software Inc. has a decent team culture among peers, but the overall corporate vibe can be a bit old-school. It's a typical IT consulting firm.

Pros

I liked working with my immediate project team. As a Senior Software Engineer, collaboration was usually pretty smooth, and we often helped each other out. The hybrid work option in New Jersey was a solid perk, offering some work flexibility.

Cons

The company culture feels very hierarchical, and management often seems out of touch with what's happening on the ground for developers. There's not a lot of recognition for individual contributions, which can be tough. It's a bit of a 'do your job and go home' kind of place.

Advice to Management

Management needs to try harder to connect with the engineering teams and foster a more open, appreciative culture. More transparency and better communication would help a lot.

Good IT Firm for Software Developers
Pros: Iris Software Inc. provides competitive pay and a solid benefits package for its software engineers. There are good opportunities for learning new tech and career development. I value the supportive colleagues and the stable, collaborative work environment in the IT services industry.
Cons: While generally positive, the work-life balance can sometimes dip during tight project deadlines. Also, the internal promotion path feels a bit slow, taking longer to advance.
Advice to Management: Focus on streamlining the internal promotion process and ensure more consistent work-life balance, especially during critical project phases, to retain top talent in software development.

Decent Pay for an IT Firm, Could Be Better
Pros: The health insurance benefits are solid here, and they do offer a 401k match, which is a big plus for a large IT firm. For new Software Engineer hires, the initial salary package is competitive enough to get started in the tech industry.
Cons: Pay raises are usually pretty small, and it's tough to negotiate a significant jump once you're in, especially for experienced IT roles. The bonus structure isn't very transparent, and it's not always a substantial amount. Don't expect huge annual pay bumps.
Advice to Management: Review the compensation benchmarks for Software Engineer roles in the US market, especially in competitive areas like New Jersey. Consider offering more aggressive annual raises and clear paths for salary growth to retain top talent in IT services.

Solid IT Services Firm with Growth Potential
Pros: Great learning for a Software Developer on diverse IT projects. Supportive team and hybrid work flexibility are big positives, aiding work-life balance. Good job security in IT services. I'm always picking up new skills.
Cons: Career progression for software developers can be slow, with unclear paths. Leadership communication on company direction could be more consistent. Some internal approvals delay project starts.
Advice to Management: Focus on creating clearer, more transparent career progression paths for Software Developers. Enhancing communication from senior leadership regarding the company's long-term vision would also be greatly beneficial for employee alignment and motivation.
