Tough Hybrid Model at ByteDance
It's a demanding place. As a Software Engineer, I found the lack of flexibility pretty draining. The push for more in-office time was tough.
There were some good perks, like the generous benefits package common in big tech. Occasionally, as a Software Engineer, you could negotiate an extra WFH day if your immediate manager in the Mountain View, CA office was supportive. That wasn't a given though.
Work flexibility is really low here. The hybrid model means you're mostly onsite, with long hours, often 10+ a day. It's tough for work-life balance, and there's constant pressure for fast deliverables in social media products. Don't expect much freedom over your schedule.
Seriously reconsider the hybrid model. Give engineering teams more autonomy over their schedules. Trust employees to get the work done without constant in-office presence.
