Solid Team, But Job Security Can Be Tricky

Working at Monkey Vietnam had its ups and downs. The team was great, but the overall stability of roles felt a bit unpredictable.

Pros

I really liked my teammates in the Ho Chi Minh City office. We worked on some cool mobile app development challenges for the ed-tech sector. The environment felt supportive for the most part.

Cons

Job security isn't great here. As a Software Engineer, I saw a lot of project changes and some unexpected layoffs. It makes planning your future a bit tough when things shift so quickly.

Advice to Management

Try to be more transparent about company direction and project longevity. It helps engineers feel more secure in their roles and plan better.

Great Ed-Tech Opportunity for Developers in Hanoi
Pros: Working as a Software Developer in this Hanoi-based ed-tech company is great. Our leadership is mission-driven with a clear vision, making my work feel impactful. The team is supportive, and there are solid chances to learn new technologies and improve my software development skills. It's a stable place.
Cons: Inter-departmental communication could improve, occasionally affecting project timelines. Additionally, while career progression exists, the promotion path for senior software engineering roles sometimes feels slow.
Advice to Management: Continue to foster transparency and explore ways to streamline cross-departmental communication for faster project execution. Reviewing and potentially accelerating the senior promotion process would also boost morale.

Job security is okay for a tech startup
Pros: The company is growing, so there are always new projects starting. As a Software Engineer, I felt pretty secure with the product roadmap, especially in the EdTech space. They try to keep the team together even when things shift.
Cons: But honestly, it's still a tech startup. Funding rounds can make you nervous, and there's always talk about 'restructuring' for efficiency. It can feel a bit uncertain at times, especially in the Hanoi office where things move fast.
Advice to Management: Communicate more clearly about future plans and project stability. This would help ease job security concerns for roles like Software Engineer.

Tough for career growth in EdTech
Pros: The team is pretty solid, it's a supportive environment in the Ho Chi Minh City office. We did get to learn some new mobile app development tech, which was good for a growing EdTech startup.
Cons: Career growth is really tough. There's just no clear promotion path for Mobile Developer roles, so it's hard to move up. It often felt like you'd hit a ceiling quickly.
Advice to Management: Management needs to really focus on developing clear career paths for their engineers. Investing in formal training programs could also help retain good talent in the long run.
