Hybrid work is okay, but quite rigid
Working at HSBC has been an interesting experience, particularly with their approach to hybrid work. While they offer some flexibility, it's not as adaptable as I'd hoped, especially for balancing life in a busy city like London.
HSBC does offer a hybrid model, usually two WFH days a week, which is a good start for a large corporate bank. As a Commercial Banking Associate, having those set days helps with planning my week in the London office.
But true flexibility beyond those set WFH days is pretty limited, especially in the financial services industry. If something comes up and you need to adjust, it's a real struggle to get approval, making it tough to balance personal life.
Offer more autonomy and trust employees to manage their schedules within the hybrid model. A little more understanding for unexpected personal needs would significantly boost morale for banking sector roles.
