About Brokerkit
Brokerkit is a remote-first SaaS company serving residential real estate brokerages. Our platform helps brokerages recruit, retain, and operate with better data, workflows, and automation.
We are looking for a senior full-stack engineer who can help maintain and improve a mature Rails and React SaaS application, work through complex bugs, ship high-quality product improvements, and grow into broader technical ownership as they build trust and Brokerkit context.
About The Role
You will work across a Ruby on Rails backend/API, React frontend, and integrations that support a production B2B SaaS application. The product is hosted on Heroku and Railway and integrates with services such as Twilio, Mailgun, MLS data providers, AI/LLM tooling via the Vercel AI SDK, and internal automation.
This is not a day-one lead or principal role. It is a high-ownership senior engineering role for someone who can execute independently, reason through risk, write and verify tests, review code thoughtfully, and use the AI-driven agentic engineering Brokerkit Development System (BDS) framework as part of daily development. The BDS framework is designed to help engineers move quickly by breaking work into small, reviewable, well-tested PRs. The engineer is also expected to contribute practical improvements back into BDS over time.
Compensation And Engagement
This is a full-time remote contractor role for candidates based in Latin America. Expected workload is 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, with a working schedule aligned to U.S. time zones. Central or Mountain Time hours are preferred. This role is paid as a fixed monthly contractor fee under Brokerkit's international contractor plan. Paid time off and sick time are included in the plan.
Posting Range
- $5,500-$7,300/month USD fixed contractor fee, based on experience, seniority, interview performance, and country market.
- Payment is in USD through Brokerkit's contractor payment process. Depending on country and payment method, funds may arrive in local currency.
Schedule And Equipment
- Remote from Latin America.
- Target schedule should align with U.S. time zones, with Central or Mountain Time preferred. Confirm the exact working window during screening.
- Candidate must have a reliable home office setup, stable internet, and a professional development environment suitable for full-stack Rails and React work.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain Rails API/backend features and React frontend features.
- Diagnose and fix complex production and customer-facing bugs.
- Design technical approaches for non-trivial features, including data model, API, UI, background job, integration, deployment, and rollback considerations.
- Improve reliability, performance, scalability, and maintainability across the app.
- Write, update, and run relevant tests before work reaches product or customer review.
- Review PRs for correctness, regression risk, data safety, UX impact, and test coverage.
- Break work into small, focused PRs and ship improvements frequently in a high-velocity engineering environment without lowering the bar for testing, review, or production safety.
- Agentic engineering use of Codex or Claude Code proactively to plan, implement, debug, test, review, and document work.
- Work within the Brokerkit Development System (BDS), Brokerkit's AI-assisted development framework, and help improve it through practical feedback, documentation, reusable prompts, and repeatable workflow patterns.
- Communicate clearly in writing across remote, cross-functional workflows.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of professional Ruby on Rails backend/API development.
- 5+ years of React or modern frontend application development.
- Strong English written communication and reliable verbal communication.
- Strong debugging discipline, including reproduction, root-cause analysis, test coverage, and verification.
- Experience building production SaaS features with real users, data integrity concerns, and deployment risk.
- Ability to work independently without skipping planning, testing, or review.
- Comfortable working in a high-velocity development environment where engineers are expected to create frequent, well-scoped PRs and verify their work before review.
- Hands-on experience using Codex or Claude Code for real software delivery. The candidate should be able to describe how they use the tool to understand a codebase, plan changes, write code, run tests, inspect diffs, debug failures, and prevent hallucinated or off-pattern changes.
- Alignment with Brokerkit core values: customer focus, doing the right thing, achievement orientation, coachability, teamwork, and pragmatic innovation.
Preferred Qualifications
- B2B SaaS experience.
- Experience with Twilio, Mailgun, real estate MLS data, the Vercel AI SDK, AI/LLM APIs, or similar integrations.
- Experience with Heroku, Railway, Postgres, Sidekiq/background jobs, and production debugging.
- Experience reviewing PRs, mentoring engineers, or owning technical design for complex features.
- Experience turning recurring engineering lessons into reusable prompts, runbooks, docs, or agent instructions.
- Experience with Cursor, Windsurf, GitHub Copilot, or similar AI coding tools in addition to Codex or Claude Code.
- Ability to become a broader technical owner after proving judgment, consistency, and Brokerkit context.
