Applied Physics (AI Training)

About The Role

What if your years of physics training could directly shape how AI understands the physical world — from quantum mechanics to thermodynamics? We're looking for PhD-level Applied Physicists to stress-test cutting-edge AI models, expose their blind spots, and help ensure they reason in ways that actually respect the laws of the universe.

This is a fully remote, flexible contract role. No AI background needed — just deep mastery of physics and a sharp, rigorous mind.

  • Organization: Alignerr
  • Type: Hourly Contract
  • Location: Remote
  • Commitment: 10–40 hours/week

What You'll Do

  • Design advanced, open-ended physics problems — think PhD qualifying exam difficulty — that require multi-step reasoning and mathematical derivation
  • Author rigorous "golden response" solutions with precise step-by-step workings, correct physical constants, and flawless unit conversions
  • Audit AI-generated solutions and simulations for physical consistency, identifying where models "hallucinate" results that violate first principles
  • Provide structured, expert feedback that improves AI reasoning around boundary conditions, conservation laws, and physical constraints
  • Work independently and asynchronously — fully on your own schedule

Who You Are

  • Holds a PhD (completed or near completion) in Applied Physics, Physics, Engineering Physics, or a closely related field
  • Deep mastery across the core pillars of physics: Classical Mechanics, Electrodynamics, Statistical Mechanics, and Quantum Mechanics
  • Exceptionally clear analytical writer — able to explain complex derivations and physical phenomena in structured, precise English
  • Uncompromising attention to detail when it comes to units, scientific notation, and logical proof structure
  • Self-motivated and consistent when working independently
  • No prior AI experience required

Nice to Have

  • Experience with data annotation, scientific dataset evaluation, or quality assurance workflows
  • Proficiency with computational tools such as Python (NumPy/SciPy), MATLAB, or COMSOL
  • Background in research-level benchmarking or academic problem-setting

Why Join Us

  • Work on high-impact AI projects alongside world-leading research labs
  • Fully remote and flexible — work when and where it suits you
  • Freelance autonomy with the structure of meaningful, intellectually rigorous work
  • Gain hands-on exposure to how frontier AI models are built and trained
  • Contribute to ensuring AI systems respect the fundamental laws of the physical world
  • Potential for ongoing work and contract extension as new projects launch
