Position Summary
The Human Resources Manager will be responsible for leading all aspects of Human Resources in Japan, including employee relations, performance management, labor compliance, HR operations, organizational development, engagement initiatives, and HR strategy execution.
This role requires a strong hands-on leader who can simultaneously operate at both strategic and operational levels. The successful candidate will play a key role in modernizing HR practices, building team capabilities, improving processes, and partnering with local and regional stakeholders to support business growth.
The HR Manager will manage and develop the local HR team while serving as a trusted advisor to business leaders across multiple functions.
Key Responsibilities
HR Leadership & Transformation
- Lead and continuously improve the HR function for TDCX Japan.
- Assess current HR processes, structures, and capabilities, identifying opportunities for modernization and operational excellence.
- Build, mentor, and develop a high-performing HR team.
- Establish scalable HR processes and frameworks to support continued business growth.
- Drive HR projects and change management initiatives aligned with business objectives.
Business Partnership
- Partner closely with Operations, Talent Acquisition, Finance, and senior leadership teams.
- Provide strategic HR guidance to managers and department heads.
- Support workforce planning, organizational design, succession planning, and talent management initiatives.
- Act as a trusted advisor on people-related challenges and business decisions.
Employee Relations & Labor Compliance
- Lead employee relations matters, investigations, disciplinary actions, grievances, and conflict resolution.
- Ensure compliance with Japanese labor laws and employment regulations.
- Provide guidance on labor law, employment contracts, workplace policies, and risk mitigation.
- Manage relationships with external legal counsel and labor consultants when required.
Performance & Talent Management
- Drive performance management processes and continuous feedback culture.
- Support leadership development and management capability building.
- Partner with business leaders to identify talent gaps and development opportunities.
- Implement programs that improve employee engagement, retention, and productivity.
HR Operations
- Oversee HR administration, employee lifecycle management, onboarding, offboarding, and HR systems.
- Ensure accuracy and efficiency of HR records and documentation.
- Review and improve HR policies, procedures, and employee handbook materials.
- Collaborate with payroll and benefits providers to ensure smooth operations.
Stakeholder Management
- Serve as the primary HR point of contact for local and regional leadership teams.
- Collaborate with stakeholders across APAC and global offices.
- Present HR insights, workforce metrics, and recommendations to senior management.
- Support global HR initiatives and ensure local implementation.
Requirements
Experience
- 8+ years of progressive HR experience, including leadership responsibilities.
- Prior experience as an HR Manager, Senior HR Business Partner, HR Lead, or equivalent.
- Experience supporting large employee populations (500+ employees preferred).
- Strong preference for candidates with BPO, contact center, customer service, outsourcing, technology, or high-growth multinational environments.
- Demonstrated experience leading HR transformation, organizational improvement, or change management initiatives.
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong knowledge of Japanese labor law and employment practices.
- Excellent employee relations and stakeholder management capabilities.
- Ability to balance strategic thinking with operational execution.
- Strong leadership, coaching, and team development skills.
- Data-driven approach to decision-making and problem-solving.
- Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Language Requirements
- Native or fluent-level Japanese.
- Business-level English required.
- Ability to communicate effectively with regional and global stakeholders.
