We're Hiring: Places Engineer!
Places exists to keep Ubiquity’s sites clean, compliant, and fully operational so that the business can run without disruption. The function owns the physical environment our people work in, ensuring building systems and day-to-day site operations are dependable across every location.
The Facilities Engineer supports this by managing the day-to-day operations of one or two sites end to end. This role is equal parts hands-on technical work and coordination: keeping building systems running through disciplined maintenance and compliance while partnering with the Places Site / Cluster Lead, contractors, and on-site teams to resolve issues quickly and keep
the workplace running and productive.
The ideal candidate brings deep, hands-on engineering depth across air-conditioning, electrical, and construction works, ideally earned by leading the engineering function for a contractor delivering commercial buildouts or fit-outs. They are equally comfortable in a mechanical room, on an active construction site, and reviewing a set of drawings.
Responsibilities
● Oversee the maintenance and repair of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and structural systems, conducting regular inspections to surface repair needs early and keep the site safe.
● Schedule and supervise preventive maintenance, ensuring requests are resolved on time and with minimal disruption to operations.
● Manage and maintain critical systems (power supply, UPS, fire protection, and security), troubleshooting issues and recommending upgrades where needed.
● Coordinate and monitor external contractors, holding them to Ubiquity’s safety and quality standards.
● Keep accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and equipment inventories, maintain adequate stock of critical spares and consumables, and track performance metrics such as equipment downtime, request volume, and energy efficiency.
● Monitor and optimize building energy usage to improve efficiency and reduce operating cost.
● Ensure all systems and equipment comply with local building guidelines and company policy, and maintain audit-ready documentation for inspections and certifications.
● Supervise, train, and schedule maintenance technicians and support staff, allocating resources effectively and modeling a culture of ownership and accountability.
● Coordinate with Security and Housekeeping to keep day-to-day site operations running smoothly.
● Manage the facility maintenance budget and oversee capital projects (renovations,
system upgrades, and the installation and commissioning of new facility equipment and systems), partnering with architects and contractors and reporting on progress, cost, and timeline.
● Review and validate technical drawings, MEPF plans, and contractor scopes during
buildouts and fit-outs, ensuring work is delivered to specification, guidelines, and budget.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
● Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil) or a related field, or equivalent experience.
● 5+ years in facilities or buildings engineering with hands-on depth across air-conditioning/HVAC, electrical, and general construction works.
● Experience leading the engineering function for a contractor delivering commercial buildouts or fit-outs is strongly preferred (e.g., Engineering Head, Lead Project Engineer, or similar).
● A relevant PRC license (e.g., RME, RMP, or PME) is a strong advantage.
● Proven track record managing budgets, contractors, and multiple concurrent projects.
Skills & Competencies
● Deep, practical knowledge of air-conditioning and HVAC systems, electrical systems, and construction and fit-out execution.
● Strong working knowledge of the full range of building systems, including plumbing and
fire safety.
● Able to read and interpret architectural, MEPF, and electrical drawings and translate them into on-the-ground execution.
● Practical problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot under pressure and keep
a site running.
● Clear communicator and capable people leader, able to guide a team and coordinate across functions.
● Strong organization, attention to detail, and follow-through, comfortable managing shifting priorities without dropping the ball.
