An AIoT platform that helps heavy industries is Looking for:

Senior Computer Vision Engineer

About the BD:

BD builds the physical intelligence layer for heavy industries — mining, oil & gas, construction, steel, and airports — integrating computer-vision systems with clients'''' existing hardware (e.g., replacing sensor/timer-based signal systems with vision-based detection at junctions and crossings). The company holds a few patented solutions.

Stage context: ~30–40 people today, engineering team of ~10. Bidaal is transitioning from early-stage startup into a growth-stage company — the "messy startup" phase is giving way to more structure, but things remain dynamic by nature of the business. Raised ~$1M in November 2024 next funding round targeted in roughly a year.

About The Role

This is a hybrid IC + leadership role, not a traditional oversight-only VP position. The person will be the go-to owner for the entire Computer Vision domain — strategy, deployment, best practices, SOPs — but is expected to actively work alongside the existing 10-person engineering team, not just mentor and direct. Bidaal is not yet at the scale where it needs a VP who purely manages it needs someone who builds and ships while also owning the department.

This mirrors how Bidaal''''s existing VP Engineering (a founding team member) operates today — hands-on despite the title. The company''''s intent is for this person to grow into full VP responsibilities as Bidaal scales, with the designation offered upfront as part of that growth path.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the Computer Vision department end-to-end and be the single point of accountability for the domain — direction, strategy, and execution.
  • Directly manage and actively work alongside the existing ~10-person engineering team this is not a pure mentorship/alignment role.
  • Lead the design, development, optimization, and deployment of CV and deep learning models for industrial applications, ensuring scalability.
  • Drive R&D on emerging CV technologies — VLMs, edge AI, multimodal AI — including cost/hardware optimization for use cases that currently work but aren''''t yet cost-efficient at scale.
  • Own the complete AI development lifecycle: data strategy, model training, evaluation, optimization, deployment, monitoring, continuous improvement.
  • Establish best practices for model development, data annotation, MLOps, experimentation, versioning, and benchmarking.
  • Evaluate and recommend AI hardware platforms (NVIDIA Jetson, Intel, Qualcomm, other industrial edge computing) based on performance, cost, and deployment needs.
  • Collaborate closely with Product, Software, Control Systems, and Networking teams — CV is one part of an integrated pipeline (e.g., detection logic handed off to control systems engineers for actuation).
  • Support customer engagements with technical expertise during solution design, pilots, and deployments.
  • Drive current active use cases forward, including:
  • HSE (health & safety) monitoring — PPE/helmet/jacket detection (standard), and more advanced detection like working-at-height safety gear compliance and phone-use-at-work
  • Vision-based replacement of existing sensor/timer-based industrial signal systems
  • New/dynamic client-specific requirements as they emerge
  • Good-to-have, not core: represent Bidaal at strategic partnerships, conferences, and technical discussions. Kalash was explicit this is a bonus, not a filter — many strong engineers are more introverted and that''''s fine.

Skills & Experience Required

  • B.Tech/M.Tech/Ph.D. in CS, AI, Computer Vision, ML, or related field.
  • 6+ years of CV experience generally 4–5 years acceptable if the candidate is from a top-tier institute (institute pedigree is a good-to-have signal for faster ramp-up, not a mandatory filter — Bidaal''''s budget won''''t compete for candidates who already carry VP tenure from a legacy institute).
  • Hands-on expertise: Python, PyTorch, TensorFlow, OpenCV, CUDA, ONNX, TensorRT, NVIDIA ecosystem, AI deployment frameworks.
  • Depth in at least several of: Detection (YOLO, Faster R-CNN, SSD, DETR), Segmentation (U-Net, Mask R-CNN), Tracking (SORT, DeepSORT, ByteTrack), OCR, Action/Activity Recognition, Human Pose Estimation, Face Detection/Recognition/Re-ID, VLMs, Multimodal/Generative AI.
  • Experience building scalable video analytics platforms handling multiple concurrent camera streams reliably.
  • MLOps, model lifecycle management, CI/CD for AI, model monitoring.
  • Experience deploying to cloud, on-prem, and edge (AWS/Azure/GCP, Kubernetes, Docker, GPU infra).
  • Understanding of camera systems, video codecs, RTSP/ONVIF, edge gateways, real-time streaming.
  • Experience integrating CV systems with SCADA, MES, ERP, IoT, VMS, industrial automation systems.
  • Non-negotiable: minimum 2 years building something standalone, from scratch (zero-to-one). Kalash flagged this specifically as a hard requirement — no exceptions.
  • Minimum 2 years working within a team (under someone), and minimum 2 years leading a team — some flex (±1 year) on this specific line, unlike the zero-to-one requirement above.

This Role Is Not for You If You…

  • Aren''''t passionate about what you do.
  • Don''''t believe in delivering exceptional results.
  • Aren''''t committed to personal growth.
  • Can''''t multitask or manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Struggle with urgent deadlines, shifting priorities, and dynamic environments.
  • Are uncomfortable taking complete ownership.
  • Aren''''t willing to go the extra mile.
  • Give reasons instead of results.
