Job Overview
We are seeking a Platform Data Engineer to join a specialized technical team responsible for supporting secure data exchange services across the organization. This role focuses on ensuring the secure, reliable, and compliant transfer of files between internal systems and external partners.
The successful candidate will work closely with application teams, infrastructure teams, security stakeholders, and third-party partners to maintain file transfer platforms, resolve operational issues, support onboarding activities, and contribute to ongoing service improvements.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Support
- Provide day-to-day support for enterprise Secure File Transfer (SFT) platforms.
- Monitor file transfer services to ensure high availability, performance, and successful delivery of business-critical data.
- Investigate and resolve failed, delayed, duplicate, or incomplete file transfers.
- Analyze logs, alerts, and system events to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Escalate complex incidents to appropriate technical teams or vendors following established support procedures.
Platform Configuration & Administration
- Support the onboarding of new business applications and external file transfer partners.
- Configure and maintain secure file transfer services, including:
- Secure transfer protocols such as SFTP, HTTPS, and AS2
- User access controls and authentication methods
- Digital certificates and encryption settings
- Scheduling, triggers, routing rules, and automated workflows
- Perform routine maintenance activities, including certificate renewals, platform housekeeping, and system health checks.
Security & Compliance
- Ensure all file transfer activities adhere to security, audit, compliance, and data protection requirements.
- Collaborate with security teams to investigate vulnerabilities and implement remediation measures.
- Support the management of encryption keys, certificates, credentials, and secure authentication mechanisms.
- Promote secure operational practices across file transfer services and integrations.
Incident & Change Management
- Participate in incident response activities and support the resolution of service-impacting issues.
- Provide timely and accurate communication to stakeholders during incidents and service disruptions.
- Support platform upgrades, patch deployments, configuration changes, and maintenance activities.
- Create and maintain operational documentation, support procedures, knowledge articles, and runbooks.
Collaboration & Service Improvement
- Partner with infrastructure, application development, security, and vendor teams to support business requirements.
- Assist with testing and validation of new integrations, enhancements, and platform changes.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on service reliability, efficiency, and operational excellence.
- Support the adoption of best practices for secure data exchange and platform management.
Experience
Required Qualifications
- Experience supporting middleware, integration platforms, or secure file transfer services within an operations or support environment.
- Hands-on experience supporting enterprise secure file transfer platforms [Axway SecureTransport].
- Proven ability to investigate and troubleshoot technical issues using logs, monitoring tools, and diagnostic techniques.
- Experience working within cloud-based or hybrid infrastructure environments.
- Familiarity with IT service management practices, including incident, problem, and change management processes.
Technical Skills
- Working knowledge of secure file transfer concepts and protocols, including:
- SFTP
- FTPS
- SSH
- TLS/SSL
- HTTPS
- AS2
- Understanding of networking fundamentals, including firewalls, ports, connectivity, and DNS.
- Experience supporting authentication, certificate, and access management processes.
- Ability to diagnose and resolve operational issues in enterprise integration environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting managed file transfer platforms such as Axway SecureTransport, IBM Sterling Connect:Direct, or similar technologies.
- Exposure to Linux or Unix operating systems and command-line administration.
- Experience with digital certificates, PGP encryption, and key management practices.
- Knowledge of scripting or automation technologies such as Bash or PowerShell.
- Experience working with external vendors, business partners, or third-party integrations.
