Job Description
We are seeking an Advanced Mechanical Design / Sensor Engineer to lead the design and development of sensor products for complex, safety‑critical systems. In this role, you will apply deep technical expertise to deliver high‑quality hardware solutions while collaborating with cross‑functional teams, customers, and suppliers.
You will report directly to our Sr Electrical Eng Manager and you’ll work out of our Mississauga, ON location.
In this role, you will play a key role in driving technical excellence, meeting customer requirements, and mentoring junior engineers. This position is ideal for an experienced engineer who demonstrates hands‑on technical expertise in a structured, process‑driven environment.
Responsibilities
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead and manage sensor design and development activities from concept through certification, ensuring delivery on scope, schedule, cost, and technical performance.
- Serve as the technical focal point for sensor development, coordinating across engineering disciplines to ensure customer and regulatory requirements are met.
- Develop detailed technical plans, schedules, and estimates; communicate engineering status, risks, and mitigation plans to leadership and program teams.
- Work closely with cross‑functional teams to perform trade studies, define requirements, and develop robust sensor designs.
- Lead technical design reviews with internal stakeholders and external customers.
- Interface directly with customers, suppliers, and vendors to support technical alignment and product compliance.
- Investigate technical issues and failures, perform root‑cause analysis, and drive permanent corrective actions.
- Apply engineering judgment to introduce new methods, tools, and design approaches to improve product performance and development efficiency.
- Support compliance with applicable standards, safety requirements, and internal engineering processes.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, technicians, and associates.
Qualifications
The Honeywell building is a controlled goods program environment. Candidates must be eligible for CGP security clearance.
Must Have
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related engineering field
- Minimum 5 years of experience in mechanical hardware, product, package, or sensor development.
We Value
- Experience developing sensors or mechanical hardware for aerospace or aircraft systems.
- Strong experience with 3D CAD and CAE tools, including application of GD&T.
- Proven ability to plan and execute engineering tasks independently and deliver results on complex projects.
- Prior experience leading or mentoring a small technical team.
- Hands‑on experience performing thermal and/or structural analysis.
- Experience working cross‑functionally with Systems Engineering, Reliability, Materials & Processes, Mechanical Analysis, and Test Engineering teams.
- Familiarity with DO‑160 and/or MIL‑STD‑202 environmental qualification standards.
- Experience estimating and planning hardware development activities and reporting project status.
- Knowledge of basic program management concepts such as earned value and schedule tracking.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to present technical information to customers and leadership.
- Knowledge of Model Based Engineering is a definite asset
The annual base salary range for this position is $95,000 to $110,000 in Mississauga, Ontario. Please note that this salary information serves as a general guideline.
