Hands-On Engineering Manager / Tech Lead – Platform (C# / AWS)

Our client is a market-leading technology company behind a cloud-based platform powering the automotive repair and insurance ecosystem.

Accessed daily by thousands of users across Australia & New Zealand, this is a mission-critical, industry-specific (vertical SaaS) platform supporting everything from estimating and job management to parts pricing and insurer workflows.

Backed by a recent $30M private equity investment, the business is now entering a major growth phase — expanding into the US and UK, with an AI-driven roadmap and a scalable AWS platform underpinning its next evolution.

They are now looking for a hands-on Engineering Manager / Tech Lead to lead their platform team.

The Role

Reporting into the CIO, this is not a traditional people management role.

They’re seeking a deeply technical leader who enjoys staying close to the code — someone who can guide a high-performing team while actively contributing to architecture, performance optimisation, and complex backend systems.

You’ll lead the team responsible for the core platform layer, impacting all products and enabling scalable, high-performance delivery across the business.

• Tech stack: C#, .NET, AWS, React, TypeScript

What You’ll Do

• Lead, mentor, and support a team of experienced engineers
• Remain hands-on — contributing to backend development and platform initiatives
• Drive architectural decisions across a large, evolving codebase
• Optimise performance, scalability, and reliability of core systems
• Oversee and guide frontend development (React) where required
• Conduct code reviews and provide technical direction and coaching
• Champion best practices across CI/CD, cloud infrastructure, and engineering standards
• Collaborate with product and business stakeholders to support global expansion

What We’re Looking For

• Experience as a Senior Engineer, Tech Lead, or Engineering Manager within a SaaS/product environment
• Deep expertise in C# / .NET, including performance optimisation and large-scale systems
• Strong AWS experience (architecture, infrastructure, scalability)
• Ability to contribute to and guide architectural decisions
• Working knowledge of React / frontend (for oversight and guidance)
• Comfortable mentoring engineers, reviewing code, and setting technical direction
• A tech-first mindset — someone who enjoys solving complex problems and staying hands-on
