Reporting to the Director Information & Communications Technology,The Manager Network Operations will be responsible for the “day to day” management and supervision of the network and telephony communication divisions within the Informatics Planning and Services (IPS) division. These divisions provide operations and support for all network communications, mobility, telephony, video, remote access, security (physical and virtual) and related services to the Government of Nunavut (GN) departments and agencies.The Manager Network Operations will work closely with other divisions within IPS and the Government of Nunavut to provide supervision, management implementation and support of cost-effective technology solutions related to network communications telephony, video services. This position will also be responsible for the human resource and financial management of the division and will assist in defining and implementing Information Technology (IT) policies, procedures, and best practices.

The primary responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to the following:

  • Supervision of staff and management of the network and telephony communication divisions within the Informatics Planning and Services (IPS) including informatics technicians, technical specialists and contractor resources related to network communications, mobility, telephony, video, remote access, security infrastructures.
  • Management of staff including assigning duties and responsibilities, scheduling work, establishing goals and priorities, monitoring work in progress, setting standards of performance, recommending career plans, counseling and motivating staff, evaluating employee performance, identification and recommendation of training and staff development
  • Plan, forecasts, approve and control expenditures within the network communication and telephony sections.
  • Provide senior management with expert advice on the GN informatics operations environment in the support, implementation and operations of GN informatics systems
  • Oversee the installation, upgrading, operating, maintenance and management of informatics tools, both hardware and software.
  • Provide expert advice on server room support, configuration related to data communications, mobility, voice/video, remote access, security infrastructures.
  • Ensuring the security, reliability and integrity of electronic data is maintained, processed and disseminated through GN IT systems in order to achieve GN goals and priorities

The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through:

  • A Degree in computer sciences, information technology, or related engineering program from a recognized post-secondary institution
  • Vendor certifications such as Microsoft, Cisco, Mitel and ITIL
  • Five (5) years of related experience in a supervisory or managerial position

This is a Highly Sensitive Position and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, along with a clear Vulnerable Sector Check is required.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land,Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
