MerchantSpring is launching a new commercial division focused on its API offering. We are looking for a Technical Account Executive to bridge the gap between the technology and sales teams.
In the early stages, you will be the main commercial owner for API opportunities. This involves leading customers through technical discovery, solution scoping, demos, qualification, proposals, and customer handover. Working closely with leadership, product, engineering, and customer-facing teams, you will turn API demand into a well-oiled sales funnel.
Along the way, you will play a key role in winning early customers, refining the go-to-market approach, and establishing the internal playbook. As the business grows, there will be pathways into leadership, mentoring future hires, and shaping the operating model for the team.
The day-to-day in this role looks like identifying relevant leads, opening the conversation, understanding the client’s use case, shaping the end-solution, and ultimately, closing the deal. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys combining technical problem-solving with proactively driving revenue generation versus a traditional pre-sales or engineering role.
Your responsibilities are to:
- Own or co-own API opportunities from qualification through close.
- Identify and prospect accounts where MerchantSpring’s API offers commercial value.
- Generate pipeline through research, direct outreach, partner mapping, and prospecting.
- Lead discovery calls to understand customer workflows, technical requirements, and business objectives.
- Engage commercial, product, data, and engineering stakeholders in the sales process.
- Demonstrate MerchantSpring's API capabilities, use cases, constraints, and implementation paths.
- Shape solution designs that connect customer needs to practical API usage.
- Create sales assets, such as FAQs, solution notes, demo flows, use cases, and internal playbooks.
- Work with product and engineering to validate feasibility and capture market feedback.
- Build repeatable sales funnel and SOPs for the Commercial API division.
- Support future team growth as the function scales.
Qualifications
- Experience as a Solutions or Sales Engineer, Consultant, Technical Account Executive, API Partnerships, Technical Business Development, or held a similar role.
- A strong grasp of APIs, integrations, data flows, authentication, and technical discovery.
- Able to understand how APIs are used, how technical buyers think, and how to translate a customer use case into a clear commercial path.
- Sold, scoped, or advised on technical products, such as APIs, data platforms, SaaS integrations, analytics tools, e-commerce technology, or developer-facing products.
- A commercial mindset with a track record of influencing or owning revenue outcomes.
- Communicate effectively with technical stakeholders and commercial decision makers.
- Strong written communication and documentation habits.
- Comfortable operating in ambiguity and helping building processes from the ground up.
- A self-starter with a proactive approach to prospecting and opportunity creation.
- Hungry to learn, and led by curiosity to ask sharp questions.
