JOB DESCRIPTION: SAFETY & HEALTH COORDINATOR / JUNIOR SAFETY OFFICER
Job Summary
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Safety & Health Coordinator / Junior Safety Officer to oversee, implement, and maintain occupational safety and health standards across our workplace. The successful candidate will act as our internal OSH backbone, ensuring regulatory compliance, minimizing workplace hazards, and driving a positive safety culture.
Key Responsibilities
1. Regulatory Compliance & Documentation
- Act as the designated OSH Coordinator under Section 29A of the OSHA (Amendment) Act 2022.
- Manage, maintain, and systematically organize all OSH statutory documentation and files.
- Assist management in submitting statutory notifications to DOSH (JKKP), including accident notifications (JKKP 6/7) and annual registers (JKKP 8).
- Coordinate and participate actively in company Safety and Health Committee meetings.
2. Hazard Management & Risk Assessment
- Conduct regular site walkthroughs and routine inspections to identify unsafe acts or conditions.
- Lead and regularly update HIRARC (Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment, and Risk Control) for all work activities.
- Ensure proper chemical management, including maintaining up-to-date Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and labels.
3. Incident Investigation & Emergency Response
- Lead investigations into any workplace incidents, near-misses, or dangerous occurrences; pinpoint root causes and recommend preventive actions.
- Assist in developing, testing, and maintaining the Emergency Response Plan (ERP).
- Coordinate regular workplace fire drills, safety events, and ensure all emergency equipment (fire extinguishers, first aid kits) is regularly inspected and serviced.
4. Safety Culture & Training
- Promote a proactive "Safety First" culture among employees and contractors.
- Conduct toolbox briefings, safe work procedure training, and general safety onboarding for new hires and contractors.
Job Requirements & Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Education: Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Safety and Health (OSH), Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Experience: Minimum 1–2 years of hands-on experience in handling workplace safety and health functions.
Certifications & Competencies (Crucial)
- Must-Have: Certified and registered as a Trained Person for OSH Coordinator (OSH-C) with DOSH / JKKP Malaysia.
- Added Advantage: Holding a valid Yellow Book (Site Safety Supervisor - SSS) or Green Book (Safety and Health Officer - SHO) registration with DOSH is highly preferred and will be considered an added advantage.
- Well-versed in OSHA 1994 (including 2022 amendments), FMA 1967, and relevant Malaysian regulations.
Soft Skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills in Bahasa Malaysia and English to liaise effectively with both ground workers and top management.
- Firm and objective in enforcing safety protocols without unnecessarily blocking daily operational timelines.
- Good analytical and report-writing skills.
