Culture is okay, but quite traditional.

HSBC has a very stable environment, good for learning the ropes in corporate finance, but it's definitely a traditional big bank. The culture moves slow, and innovation isn't a strong point.

Pros

I've had pretty solid job security here, which is a big plus in the finance industry. The training for a Junior Financial Analyst is comprehensive. You get a decent overview of corporate banking processes in our New York City office.

Cons

The overall company culture feels really bureaucratic and slow. There isn't much room for innovation for employees like me. As a Junior Financial Analyst, it's hard to feel like fresh ideas matter. It's often just about sticking to old ways here.

Advice to Management

Try to embrace modern ways of working and empower younger employees to bring new ideas forward. Speed up decision-making processes; it would help a lot with morale.

Supportive Culture, Good Stability in Financial Services
Pros: I've enjoyed my time at HSBC. The company culture is supportive, with great colleagues always willing to help. I've had opportunities to learn new skills in financial services, which is good for career development. It's a stable global bank, offering solid job security in a hybrid work setting in New York, NY.
Cons: The approval processes can sometimes feel a bit slow. Also, while learning opportunities are good, career growth into promotions can take longer than expected.
Advice to Management: Consider streamlining some of the internal approval workflows to improve efficiency and help accelerate career progression where possible. Continuing to invest in employee development and growth pathways would be beneficial.

Great Flexibility in a Global Banking Role
Pros: The work flexibility at HSBC is excellent, especially with the hybrid work model. It really helps with work-life balance. I appreciate the supportive team and the continuous learning opportunities available, which is key for a Senior Financial Analyst in global banking.
Cons: While career development is there, the promotion process can feel a bit slow sometimes in such a large organization. Also, internal communication could be smoother across different departments.
Advice to Management: Streamline the promotion pathways for high-performing financial professionals and improve cross-departmental communication efficiency.

Great Place for Learning and Stability in Global Banking
Pros: Working at HSBC as a Junior Software Engineer in London has been great. It's a stable global banking environment with excellent learning opportunities, particularly in financial technology. My colleagues are incredibly supportive, and the hybrid work model really helps with work-life balance.
Cons: On the downside, the promotion process can feel a bit slow, and some internal approval processes are pretty bureaucratic. Clearer communication from senior leadership on strategic direction would also be beneficial.
Advice to Management: Streamline internal approval processes and enhance communication from senior leadership regarding strategic initiatives. This would help teams move faster and feel more aligned.
