Job Description
We are seeking a hands-on Maker Lab Officer to support our dynamic Maker Education programme for RI students. The Maker Lab Officer will help maintain and prepare materials, ensure that the Maker Space is ready for lessons, and provide support to the Maker Coach and teachers where necessary.
Programme Preparation
- Prepare materials, tools, and resources for classes and maker projects in collaboration with the Maker Education team
- Ensure all tools and equipment are in working condition
- Ensure learning environments have been set up and cleaned before and after sessions
Job Requirements
- Experience working in a makerspace, Fab Lab, or STEM/Maker education setting preferred
- First aid certification and/or experience with Fab Lab / workshop safety protocols (preferred but not essential)
- Able to commit from 20 April 2026 to 30 June 2026
Technical and Making Skills
- Proficiency in a range of analogue making tools (e.g. utility knives, saws, glue guns) and digital fabrication tools (e.g. 3D printers, laser cutters)
- Ability to troubleshoot and maintain maker tools and equipment
- Familiarity with basic CAD and design software (e.g. SketchUp, Fusion 360, Adobe Illustrator) to troubleshoot 3D printing jobs is an advantage
Interpersonal Skills
- Ability to build strong rapport with secondary school students; approachable and patient
- Clear communicator and collaborative team member
