Solid Job Security for Core Engineering Roles
Pros: You feel really secure here, especially as a Software Engineer in the core infrastructure teams. This prop trading firm doesn't do big layoffs like some other places in fintech. If you're performing, you're usually fine.
Cons: While overall good, I've seen some roles, especially in newer initiatives, have less stability. If your project doesn't pan out, there's always a bit of uncertainty. It's tough sometimes, even for a solid company.
Advice to Management: Keep investing in long-term projects and ensure all teams feel the same job stability. Transparency around project viability would help.

Great Pay, Intense, Smart People
Pros: The best part is definitely working with incredibly smart people. As a Software Engineer in the New York office, I learned a ton every single day. Compensation for proprietary trading firm roles is absolutely top tier, which is a huge draw.
Cons: Work-life balance is tough; it's a very demanding environment with long hours often expected. There's not much work flexibility, as they really push for onsite collaboration. The company culture can feel quite competitive and a bit insular for some.
Advice to Management: Try to acknowledge the intense pressure on employees and offer more avenues for mental well-being. More structured downtime could really help prevent burnout in this high-frequency trading environment.

Amazing Pay, Decent Benefits, High Pressure
Pros: They really do pay incredibly well. As a Software Engineer, my base salary and bonus compensation were way above industry average for fintech. The health benefits and 401k matching are also very strong, especially in their New York office.
Cons: While the pay is amazing, there isn't much flexibility; it's strictly onsite. Work-life balance can be tough at times, especially during peak trading periods, and some benefits like parental leave could be better for such a big quant firm.
Advice to Management: Consider offering more work flexibility options. It would really help with retention for folks in technical roles, not just for traders. Also, improving parental leave would be a huge plus.

Great for Learning, Tough on Culture
Pros: The compensation is top-tier for a Software Engineer in quantitative trading. You're working with super smart people, and the learning curve is steep but rewarding. The onsite work model fosters good collaboration if you like that.
Cons: Work-life balance can be really tough; long hours are pretty standard, especially in the New York City office. The company culture is very demanding, and it's easy to feel the pressure. It's not a relaxed environment at all for high-frequency trading roles.
Advice to Management: Try to acknowledge the intense work environment and find ways to alleviate some pressure. Promote better work-life balance initiatives beyond just free food.

Tough Hours, Great Pay, Solid Team
Pros: The team here is super sharp; you learn a ton in the high-frequency trading space. Compensation for Software Engineer roles is truly top-tier, which helps balance the long hours. The New York City office environment is pretty slick, too.
Cons: Work-life balance as a Software Engineer is definitely a challenge; expect consistent 60+ hour weeks. It's an intense, onsite environment, so don't expect much work flexibility. Sometimes it feels like you're always on call for system issues.
Advice to Management: Try to find ways to ease the pressure on engineers during off-peak times. More predictable schedules would help a lot with burnout in this fintech environment.
