Field Service Technician

Great Learning, Stable Job in Security Industry
Pros: I've gained valuable skills as a Field Service Technician, especially with advanced security systems and fire alarms. The team is supportive, and there are good learning opportunities. It's a stable company in the fire & security industry, offering solid job security in Atlanta, GA, which I appreciate.
Cons: Career progression can feel a bit slow, with promotions taking longer than expected. Also, communication could improve between the field and office, especially regarding scheduling and urgent client needs.
Advice to Management: Focus on streamlining the promotion process, making career paths clearer for Field Service Technicians. Also, improve communication channels between the field team and the office for better coordination on client service and scheduling.

Security System Installer

Decent Flexibility for Field-Based Security Work
Pros: You get some autonomy over your daily route for alarm installations. It's a field-based role, so you're not stuck in the Dallas office all day. Good for a Security System Installer.
Cons: Work flexibility isn't really a thing for fire safety or security systems installers; you're needed onsite constantly. You can't really work from home, obviously. Weekends can be unpredictable due to urgent alarm installations or service calls, and schedules change last minute, which messes with personal plans.
Advice to Management: Try to give field-based teams like Security System Installers more notice for schedule changes. Acknowledging the demands of onsite fire safety and security systems work would help a lot with morale.

Field Service Engineer

Decent place for a steady security tech job
Pros: As a Field Service Engineer, I generally had consistent hours. It's a solid, large corporate company in the fire and security industry, so job security felt good. Most weeks were standard 40-hour weeks, which is decent for onsite work.
Cons: On-call rotation really impacted my work-life balance sometimes. You don't always get to choose your schedule when dealing with emergency alarm monitoring, especially in the Dallas, TX area. Weekend work could pop up unexpectedly.
Advice to Management: Try to staff more for the on-call rotation to ease the burden on individual Field Service Engineers. Better transparency on potential overtime during hiring would also help.
