King George V School is seeking an innovative and experienced Librarian to lead the day-to-day management and long-term strategic development of our Learning Resources Centre (LRC). The LRC is a vital hub of learning and inquiry for approximately 1,900 students. The successful candidate will be part of the LRC team of 3, manage a dedicated budget, and collaborate deeply with curriculum heads to foster information literacy, academic integrity, and a vibrant culture of reading across Years 7–13.
Responsibilities
- To lead the development and promotion of the library to ensure it supports the educational goals, vision, and mission of the school.
- To ensure the library’s provision reflects KGV’s community needs
- To allocate and manage the annual LRC budget, ensuring strict accounting control of resources and cost-efficient procurement.
- To manage the LRC team and their professional development, including volunteer helpers and student interns.
- To plan the development and progression of information literacy skills from Year 7-13.
- Partner with curriculum heads, subject leaders, and classroom teachers to coherently integrate library resources into the MYP, IGCSE, IB, and BTEC curricula.
- To ensure that that digital and physical library collections are in line with the needs of staff and students
- To manage the effective use of the LRC physical environment, plan and coordinate displays and activities promoting reading for pleasure and information including but not limited to the website, Book Week, festivals, visiting author programs, and writing competitions.
- Manage the layout environmental flow of the LRC to ensure a safe, productive, and respectful learning environment.
- To administer & maintain the loan system and general good order of the Library; stock checks, culling, etc.
- To specifically support the work of the Extended Essay coordinator and Community Project Coordinator in ensuring students are able demonstrate the required research skills
- To support the writing, review and promotion of the school academic honesty policy.
- To work with VP to develop and promote professional learning resources and deliver related training to teachers
- To liaise with other school librarians in Hong Kong for their mutual advantage and professional development. e.g. Attend ESF network meetings and ALESS meeting
- Ad hoc duties assigned by line manager or the SLT.
Requirements
- Bachelors’ Degree as a minimum; at least 5 years library experience. Relevant work experience in a school or library setting is preferable
- Exceptional command of spoken and written English, and good Chinese to interact positively with students, staff, and external stakeholders.
- Prior supervisory or staff management experience is highly desirable.
- Membership of a professional Library organization eg. CILIP, ALIA, ALA are essential
