Pros: As a Junior Field Engineer, I got solid hands-on experience in the oil and gas industry early on. You learn a ton if you're proactive and willing to get your hands dirty. Initial training programs are pretty thorough for new hires.
Cons: Career growth felt pretty slow after the first year. There aren't many clear paths to move up, especially for mid-level roles in the Houston office. It's a mid-sized energy company, so promotion opportunities felt limited.
Advice to Management: Please create clearer career progression tracks, especially for experienced individual contributors. Invest more in leadership development for promising employees to show there's room to grow within this mid-sized energy company.

Pros: The base salary for Field Engineer roles is solid, especially compared to some smaller energy sector companies. I also liked the 401k match, which felt pretty generous.
Cons: Healthcare premiums are really high, making it tough to use the good dental or vision plans. There's also not much paid time off, which impacts work-life balance for onsite field work.
Advice to Management: Re-evaluate the employee healthcare costs. It's a big retention factor, especially for us Field Engineers working long hours in the oil and gas sector.
