Great Place for Growth in Cybersecurity Engineering
Pros: Working at Tanium as a Software Engineer has been really rewarding for my career development. I've learned a ton from the smart and dedicated colleagues on my team. The projects in endpoint security are complex and challenging, which provides excellent learning opportunities with cutting-edge technology. It's a fantastic environment for anyone looking to seriously advance their technical skills and grow within the cybersecurity industry. There's a strong emphasis on innovation here.
Cons: While the work is engaging, it can get pretty intense sometimes, leading to occasional longer hours, especially around release cycles. The pace is fast, which is great for pushing boundaries, but it also means adapting quickly to changes. Sometimes, internal communication could be a bit clearer on larger company initiatives. It's not a deal-breaker, just something that could be refined to improve overall team coordination.
Advice to Management: Continue to invest in leadership training for middle management to ensure consistent communication across teams, especially during busy release cycles. Exploring ways to streamline some internal approval processes could also enhance efficiency and reduce team bottlenecks.

Decent flexibility if you manage it well
Pros: I've found that for Technical Account Manager roles, especially when working remote from Seattle, there's good autonomy. I can generally set my own schedule for client calls outside of core hours. It's a perk in the cybersecurity space not everyone offers.
Cons: The expectation is still pretty high for responsiveness. You often feel chained to your laptop, even with the "flexibility." Internal meetings can sometimes eat up prime personal time, making it hard to take a real break.
Advice to Management: Encourage managers to truly empower teams to use their flexibility without guilt. Also, review meeting culture to reduce unnecessary late-day calls that impact personal time.

Decent pay, but benefits could improve
Pros: As a Software Engineer, the base salary is competitive for the cybersecurity industry. I've heard sales roles like account executive also get solid commissions. They've got good medical coverage too, which is a big plus.
Cons: The 401k match isn't great compared to other big tech companies. Remote from Seattle, I sometimes feel like I miss out on local office perks. Stock options are fine, but don't feel like they appreciate as much as I'd hope.
Advice to Management: Re-evaluate the 401k match program to be more competitive. Also, consider enhancing stock option appreciation or adding other long-term incentives.
