Company Reviews

In January 2021, Hitachi Automotive Systems, Keihin, Showa, and Nissin Kogyo completed a business merger and began their journey as the global mega-supplier “Hitachi Astemo”. Through the combined strengths of the companies, we are further enhancing our global competitiveness in the areas of automotive powertrain systems, chassis systems, autonomous driving/advanced driving assistance systems (AD/ADAS), and motorcycle systems.

Astemo’s mission is to work on solving various social issues and to create a better future by providing advanced mobility solutions. In addition to reducing traffic accidents and traffic congestion, we aim to reduce the burden on the environment by cleaning exhaust gas and improving fuel efficiency to contribute to the realization of a society that is both people- and eco-friendly.

Pay is Okay, Benefits Are Solid
Pros: The benefits package here is pretty good, especially for the automotive industry. My health insurance coverage was really decent, and the 401k match helps a lot. They also have a solid PTO policy for us as Software Developers.
Cons: The base salary can feel a bit low compared to some big tech firms. Raises don't come super fast, which can be tough. It's hard to get a big jump in compensation without changing roles.
Advice to Management: Revisit the compensation structure, especially base salaries and the frequency of significant raises for technical roles like Software Developer. It'd help retain talent.

Hybrid Work Helps, But Workload Gets Intense
Pros: The hybrid setup is a real plus; I get to WFH a few days which helps save commute time in Farmington Hills, MI. It's a decent perk for those in automotive software development. You can actually use your PTO, which is good.
Cons: As a Software Engineer, projects often have tight deadlines. I've frequently worked 50+ hour weeks, especially around product release cycles. It can be tough to maintain that work-life balance when things ramp up.
Advice to Management: Try to manage project scope better for us Software Engineers. Empower teams to push back on unrealistic deadlines to truly support a good work-life balance.

Senior Software Engineer

Leadership has its moments, good and bad.
Pros: My direct manager is super supportive and really knows the technical stuff, which is great for a Senior Software Engineer. We get solid backing for tackling complex projects in the automotive manufacturing industry. The benefits package is pretty decent too.
Cons: Upper leadership can feel pretty disconnected from the daily grind. Their vision sometimes changes suddenly, which makes it tough for us. Communication from the top isn't always clear, especially with teams on a hybrid model. It causes some confusion.
Advice to Management: Please work on clearer communication across all levels, especially concerning strategic changes. It would help everyone, particularly those of us working on a hybrid model, feel more aligned and less stressed about shifting priorities.
