Leadership at CATL needs to listen more
Pros: Team members are really solid here. I've learned a ton about the EV battery manufacturing process. Support from my direct peers in this big tech company was good when I needed help.
Cons: Upper management doesn't seem connected to daily operations. As a Process Engineer, our feedback on production issues often got ignored. Decisions from the top often come down without much explanation for the onsite teams.
Advice to Management: Really try to engage with your engineering teams more directly. Understand the challenges on the production floor before making big strategic calls, especially for those in manufacturing roles.

Okay Pay, But Expect to Work Hard
Pros: For a big corporate like CATL, the base salary is consistent. You get pretty solid health benefits, which is a big plus in Ningde, China. The company's stability in EV battery manufacturing helps with job security.
Cons: As a Process Engineer, I felt the pay wasn't always competitive for the workload. Bonuses are often tied to tough targets and can feel a bit low for the hours put in, especially with all the onsite demands for lithium-ion cell production. Don't expect huge raises or generous equity.
Advice to Management: Re-evaluate the pay scales, especially for engineering roles. Consider better compensation for mandatory overtime in our EV battery manufacturing plants. Acknowledge that the cost of living has gone up in Ningde.

Job Security Solid in the EV Sector
Pros: CATL is a huge player in the global EV battery industry, so there's always work. As a Battery Test Engineer, I feel pretty secure with the constant demand for new electric vehicle products. The company's growth means less worry about layoffs for us in core engineering roles.
Cons: The work can be really demanding, with long hours sometimes impacting work-life balance. While job security for core staff like engineers is good, I've heard contractor roles can be a bit more volatile. The pace in the Ningde office can be intense.
Advice to Management: Try to improve work-life balance for onsite staff. Recognize the effort employees put in, especially during crunch times. Transparency around promotion paths would also help a lot.

Tough for Work-Life Balance in Battery Manufacturing
Pros: It's a really stable job in the booming EV battery industry. The pay is pretty decent for a corporate role in Ningde. You'll learn a ton if you're a driven Production Engineer.
Cons: Work flexibility is almost zero, especially for onsite manufacturing. Expect long hours, often 6 days a week. There are no hybrid or WFH options available for roles like mine.
Advice to Management: Try to find ways to offer some form of flexibility, even small gestures, for production staff. The current demands lead to burnout.

Solid base pay, but benefits are just okay
Pros: The base pay for a manufacturing engineer in the EV battery sector is pretty competitive, I'd say. It's a big global company, so there's a sense of stability with the salary part. You get paid what you expect, which is decent.
Cons: Where it falls short is the benefits package, especially in our Fremont, California office. Health insurance options weren't great, and the 401k match was minimal. Don't expect huge annual bonuses either; they're pretty tied to super aggressive targets. Pay raises don't happen often.
Advice to Management: Management really needs to look at the benefits package for its US employees. Better health plans and a stronger 401k match would make a huge difference in retaining talent, especially in a competitive market like the EV battery industry.

Good Experience, Brutal Company Culture
Pros: You get hands-on experience in battery manufacturing quickly. It's a massive company, so there's solid job security. Great for jumpstarting a career in the EV industry.
Cons: The company culture is very intense. Expect extremely long onsite hours, often 6 days a week. Work-life balance is pretty much non-existent.
Advice to Management: Try to improve work-life balance for onsite teams. Those long hours burn people out fast. Empower middle management more, too.
