Okay Pay, But Work-Life Balance Can Be Tough

It's a mixed bag working here. Some parts are good, some parts definitely need work.


Pros

The pay is pretty solid for a Field Service Technician, especially in the Dallas area. You get decent benefits too. The actual elevator maintenance work can be interesting, and my immediate team is usually supportive.


Cons

Work-life balance here is the main issue. As a Field Service Technician in the vertical transportation industry, you're constantly on call. It's tough to plan things when you're working 50+ hours some weeks for onsite roles.


Advice to Management

Management needs to figure out staffing levels. More technicians would help spread the load and reduce the insane on-call hours. Invest in better scheduling tools too.

Steady Work for Elevator Techs in ATL
Pros: Working as a Field Service Technician, I felt pretty secure. The elevator industry always needs maintenance, so there's consistent work, especially with commercial elevators across the Atlanta metro area. You won't worry much about layoffs.
Cons: While job security is solid, the path for career growth as a technician can feel a bit stagnant. It's tough to move up quickly sometimes, and pay raises don't always reflect your experience or the demanding onsite work schedule.
Advice to Management: Try to create more defined career ladders for Field Service Technicians. Also, review compensation to ensure it stays competitive for experienced onsite workers.

Pay's Solid for Field Techs, Benefits Eh
Pros: The hourly pay for a Field Service Technician in Dallas, TX is pretty good. You definitely get paid for overtime, which helps out a lot. It's a stable corporate environment.
Cons: Health insurance premiums feel high, and the deductible can be tough. The 401k match isn't super competitive in the elevator industry. Dental and vision plans are just okay.
Advice to Management: Look into improving the health insurance plans and maybe bumping up the 401k match. It would make a big difference for us field teams.
