Good Place for Learning and Work-Life Balance
Pros: Working as a Software Engineer here is solid. The work-life balance is great with a hybrid model, which is a big deal. My London team is supportive, and I've had good chances to learn new retail technology and develop my skills. It's a stable environment for sure.
Cons: Career growth can feel slower compared to some other tech companies. While benefits are good, pay isn't always top-tier. Some internal approval processes can be a bit slow, but it's manageable.
Advice to Management: Focus on streamlining career progression paths for technical roles. Encouraging more internal innovation initiatives could also boost morale and keep us competitive.

Stable if you're in essential retail tech
Pros: As a Software Engineer here, the job security feels okay because Tesco is a big corporate. The essential nature of our retail tech and e-commerce platform keeps us somewhat insulated from broader market changes. Plus, the hybrid model in the Welwyn Garden City office is a nice perk.
Cons: However, there's always talk of restructuring and budget cuts, which makes you wonder. I've heard about some roles possibly moving offshore, which isn't great for long-term security. It can feel a bit uncertain at times.
Advice to Management: Management needs to be more transparent about long-term plans for tech roles, especially regarding potential outsourcing or shifts in priorities. Better communication about job security would really help reduce anxiety for employees.

Decent Balance for a Corporate Tech Role
Pros: As a Software Engineer in the London office, the work-life balance is pretty decent. They really push for 40-hour weeks in this corporate tech environment, which is nice. The hybrid model for work arrangement also helps a lot.
Cons: Sometimes, projects have super tight deadlines which can be stressful, especially for core platform engineering. The on-call rota for engineers can disrupt personal time, too. It's not always consistent.
Advice to Management: Try to smooth out those super tight deadlines and review the on-call burden for engineering teams. It would help with burnout and make work-life balance even better.
