Okay for a Start, Then It Stalls
Pros: It's a solid place for entry-level experience in the meat processing industry. There's some decent internal training if you're proactive, especially for new Production Supervisor roles. You can learn a lot about how a large-scale operation runs.
Cons: Career growth isn't very structured here; it often feels like you're stuck unless someone leaves. There aren't many clear promotion pathways for onsite roles beyond a certain level. It's tough to move between departments in the Dunedin plant without significant effort.
Advice to Management: Management should work on creating clearer career paths for Production Supervisor roles and other positions. More structured internal mobility programs would really help retain talent. It feels like good people leave because they can't see a path forward.

Leadership is a bit of a mixed bag
Pros: I've learned a ton about food safety protocols in the meat processing industry. Some of my direct supervisors at the Dunedin plant were really supportive and knew their stuff. The focus on quality for the farm-to-plate model is genuine.
Cons: Upper leadership often feels disconnected from the day-to-day work for Quality Assurance Technicians. There isn't much opportunity for our feedback to reach the top, and decisions can feel very top-down. It impacts morale sometimes.
Advice to Management: Try to get more hands-on with the teams on the ground, especially in the plants. Understanding our daily challenges would help make better decisions. Listen to the Quality Assurance Technicians more.

Leadership can be a bit hit or miss
Pros: The team I worked with, especially in Logistics Coordinator roles, was solid. Everyone pulls their weight, and you learn a lot about the agricultural supply chain. Pay is decent for an onsite role in Hawke's Bay.
Cons: Leadership consistency is a real issue. Some managers are good, but others just don't seem to have a clear direction. This makes planning tough for us in the meat processing industry, and communication from above often feels unclear.
Advice to Management: Focus on consistent training and clear communication for all levels of management. Employees like Logistics Coordinators need a clear vision to do their best work. Empower your team leaders more.

Onsite work is tough for flexibility here.
Pros: Job security is solid in the food production sector, which is great. I also got pretty decent training for my Production Line Supervisor role. The team on the line was usually supportive, too.
Cons: Work flexibility is a real struggle for onsite roles. As a Production Line Supervisor, you're locked into set shifts, often early mornings or late nights. It's hard to arrange personal appointments or manage unexpected life stuff with zero wiggle room.
Advice to Management: Consider allowing more shift swaps or offering some form of occasional flexible hours for supervisors. Even small changes would make a big difference for work-life balance.
