Decent Pay, But Benefits Fall Short
Pros: The base salary as a Software Engineer at ShopDeck is pretty decent, especially considering it's an e-commerce tech company. I was happy with my initial offer, and working remote from Texas helps stretch that income further.
Cons: However, the benefits package isn't great. Health insurance premiums are quite high, and the 401k match is pretty weak compared to other tech companies. There's no real annual bonus either, which is a significant drawback.
Advice to Management: Management should really look into improving the health benefits package and making the 401k match more competitive. A performance-based bonus would also help retain valuable engineering talent.

Pay's Okay, Benefits Need a Boost Here
Pros: As a Software Engineer, the base salary is decent for the Seattle tech market. My health insurance coverage is pretty solid, which is a big plus. It's a stable company in the e-commerce industry, so there's some job security.
Cons: The bonus structure isn't very competitive, unfortunately. There's no 401k match, which feels like a miss for a company this size. Also, with the hybrid work model, commute costs can add up without much help.
Advice to Management: Consider implementing a 401k match and improving the bonus structure to attract and retain top talent, especially for hybrid work roles.

Leadership is a real mixed bag here
Pros: Some senior product leaders are genuinely good mentors for us Junior Product Managers. They really encourage ownership in product development. Plus, the flexibility of working remote is a big plus.
Cons: Middle management can be inconsistent, sometimes too hands-off, other times micromanaging. Communication from leadership about strategic changes in this e-commerce space isn't always clear. It's tough to get solid answers on long-term career growth for roles like mine.
Advice to Management: Management needs more consistent training, especially for middle managers. Work on clearer, more frequent communication regarding company-wide strategy in the retail tech industry. It would help everyone feel more aligned.
