Company Reviews

Vast is developing next-generation space stations to ensure continuous human presence in space for America and its allies, enabling advanced microgravity research and manufacturing, and unlocking a new space economy for government, corporate, and private customers. Using an incremental, hardware-rich and low-cost approach, Vast is rapidly developing its multi-module Haven Station. Haven Demo’s 2025 success made Vast the only operational commercial space station company to fly and operate its own spacecraft. Next, Haven-1 is expected to become the world’s first commercial space station when it launches in 2027, followed by additional Haven modules to enable permanent human presence by 2030.

With more than 1,000 employees at its Long Beach, California headquarters and over a billion dollars in private capital invested, Vast has built the facilities required to manufacture and operate America’s next space station. The company plans to develop future habitats for the Moon and Mars, dedicated space stations for government partners, and other crewed systems that will unlock the expanding long-term space economy.

Good place to learn, but growth is fuzzy
Pros: You learn a ton at this tech startup. As a Software Engineer, I got to work on different parts of the product. It's a fast environment, so you pick up skills quickly.
Cons: Career growth isn't well-defined at all. There's no clear path for promotions or advancement in technical roles. It's tough to see where you'll be in a few years, remote from home.
Advice to Management: Please create clear progression plans for technical roles. This would really help with employee retention and overall morale.

Okay Flexibility for a Growing Tech Company
Pros: I've had some good days working remote from Austin when needed. The hybrid model is generally pretty solid, especially for software engineer roles where heads-down work is key. There's usually a decent balance.
Cons: It's not truly flexible. We're expected in the Austin, TX office at least three days a week, which can be tough. Sometimes project crunch times mean you can't really WFH even if you want to. Not ideal for a mid-sized tech company if you're looking for full remote freedom.
Advice to Management: Management should really look into making the hybrid policy more flexible, maybe less mandatory office days. Trust your engineers to get the work done, whether they're onsite or remote.

Decent for some, but tough on work flexibility
Pros: The company has a really collaborative environment, especially for engineering roles. It's great if you like being in the office daily and working closely with your team. The projects in aerospace tech are genuinely exciting.
Cons: There's not much remote work or a true hybrid model available. As a Software Engineer, you're expected to be in the Long Beach office pretty strictly. It makes balancing personal life with work hours quite a challenge.
Advice to Management: Consider offering more options for remote work or a flexible hybrid schedule, especially for senior engineering roles. It would really help with employee retention and overall morale.
