Okay balance for onsite engineering roles
Pros: The pay is solid, especially for a Process Engineer in specialty chemicals. You usually get your 40 hours during the week and benefits are decent. There's some internal movement if you actively look for it.
Cons: It's a very corporate environment in the Wilmington office. There's not much room for hybrid work, it's mostly onsite. Expect to be tied to the manufacturing plant schedule a lot, which can make personal appointments tricky.
Advice to Management: Consider more flexible work arrangements for roles that don't absolutely require 100% onsite presence. It would definitely help with employee retention and overall morale.

Decent Hybrid Work, But Not for Everyone
Pros: I liked the hybrid work setup; for my Chemical Engineer role, being in the corporate office a few days a week was fine. It gave some work-life balance, especially not having to commute every single day to Wilmington, DE. Some teams even had compressed work weeks which was a nice benefit for those in the specialty chemicals industry.
Cons: Work flexibility isn't consistent across all departments; some R&D lab roles or plant operations staff barely get any. It's tough when your manager isn't on board with WFH days, even if company policy allows it for the corporate office. The formal process to request changes can be slow, too.
Advice to Management: Managers need more training and consistent guidelines on work flexibility. It shouldn't depend on individual manager preference; make company policy clearer and uniformly enforced. Consider more hybrid or remote options for appropriate roles.

Decent Work-Life Balance for Engineers at Ashland
Pros: The work-life balance is usually good, especially for onsite work in the Wilmington office. I rarely had to pull crazy hours as a Process Engineer. It's not a place where you're expected to be 'on' 24/7, which is a huge plus.
Cons: Sometimes project deadlines can get tight, and that's when things get tricky. There's not much flexibility for hybrid work in many manufacturing operations roles, which can be a bummer. It's not always easy to take spontaneous time off.
Advice to Management: Focus on improving flexibility, especially for engineering teams. A more robust hybrid model could really boost morale for roles that don't require constant plant presence.
