Mining Engineer

It's decent, but be ready for the grind.
Pros: You get really solid pay here, which helps. For a Mining Engineer, the FIFO roster does mean clear time off, even if the shift is intense. It's a stable job in the resources industry.
Cons: Honestly, work-life balance is tough, especially on site. Long hours are super common for mining operations, and project deadlines mean you're often working weekends. Don't expect much work flexibility.
Advice to Management: Try to implement better staffing models for projects. Help managers enforce more reasonable hours, especially for site-based technical roles. Improving work-life balance would really help retain talent.

Hybrid Model Works, But Not For Everyone
Pros: I've really liked the hybrid model in the Houston office. As a Process Engineer, I can mostly choose my three days in the office. It's solid for most corporate roles at this big corporate.
Cons: The flexibility completely changes for site-based operations in the resources sector. My colleagues often work tough rosters. Remote work options are super limited beyond the hybrid setup, which can be a bummer.
Advice to Management: Try to find more ways to offer flexibility for our site-based teams. Even small changes would make a big difference in morale for those hard-working employees.

Senior Analyst, Financial Planning

Flexibility is improving, but still needs work
Pros: As a Senior Analyst in the financial planning team, I've seen some movement towards hybrid work in the Perth office. It's nice to have a couple of WFH days now. This wasn't really an option for corporate roles before.
Cons: For operational roles in mining, work flexibility isn't really an option; it's onsite only, as expected. Even for office staff, there's a strong push to be in the office more than WFH. It's not truly flexible for most roles here.
Advice to Management: Keep pushing for more flexible work options across all departments, not just a select few. Trust your employees to do their jobs regardless of where they are working from, especially in corporate and professional roles.
